The UD and Nissan Diesel is an international trademark for Nissan diesel trucks.

 Ud
The ud consists of five fundemental components: the body, the soundboard (belly, chest or face), the neck (fingerboard), the pegbox and the strings, where the body is made first in the construction process.
A kind of contemporary ud is the one with the ‘long fingerboard’, for which the first application is due to the ud virtuoso Þerif Muhittin Targan, who is inspired by one of the three instruments he played, the violoncello.
Ud should be kept in a wardrobe not closed to daylight, and should be put in a position such that the soundboard is on the shelf.

 The Oud
As the sanj is described as a wanj, the buq as a qarn, the duff as a tar, the 'ud becomes a synonym of the barbat.
The 'ud consists of a large soundbox connected to a short neck, features that give it its letters patent of nobility and distinguish it from the long-necked lute family (tanbur, saz, baglama, setar etc).
Although the four-course 'ud survives in Morocco, as the 'ud 'arbi, the tuning does not conform to the pitches inferred from classical treatises: a conflict between oral and written traditions.

The 'ud is known in Turkey as the lauta and in the Balkans as the oud or uti.

Ud plectrums are 0.5-1.5 mm thick, 3-15 mm wide, and 4-20 cm long, and are available in a wide range of hardness, flexibility, tip shape and colour to suit everyone.
In the fasıl (vocal and instrumental suite in a single mode) it is the ud which sets the rhythm with the beats of the plectrum, and comes to the fore in bass areas of the melody.
The ud is one of the simplest Turkish instruments to play and one of the least problematical, which means that today as in the past it is widely used.

Oud - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The words 'lute' and 'oud' may have derived from Arabic العود al‘ud, "the wood", though recent research by Eckhard Neubauer suggests that ‘ud may simply be an Arabized version of the Persian name rud, which meant string, stringed instrument, or lute.
Gianfranco Lotti suggests that the "wood" appellation originally carried derogatory connotations, because of proscriptions of all instrumental music in early Islam.
Turkish-Style ouds ("ud") (Includes instruments found in Armenia and Greece): Slightly smaller in size, slightly shorter neck, higher in pitch, brighter timbre.

 'Ud
The 'ud is a short-necked lute found throughout the Middle East, believed to have origins similar to the Chinese pipa.
The basic design of the 'ud was developed by the 8th century A.D. Brought by the Arabs to Spain, the instrument gave both its name (al ud: laud: lute) and form to the European lute.
Thanks to its warm timbre, low tessatura, and microtonal flexibility, the 'ud is known as amîr al-tarab or "the prince of enchantment." Today the 'ud is the favored tool of composers and theorists, and a basic member of the traditional ensemble.

 Al 'Ud -- The Oud
The 'ud is the ancestor of the European lute ("al 'ud" became "lute"), and ultimately of the guitar as well.
Unlike the lute and guitar, however, the 'ud has no frets; this enables the musician to play the quarter-tones (in between the half-steps of a 12-note chromatic scale) necessary for most Arabic and Turkish music.
