This farm (Korpstadir, on the ingvellir road) was built as the city expanded in the 1920’s at the time when a main-line railway was projected to Selfoss.
The farm is brick-built in a Danish style.

As Andy put it we were in 'American' Iceland having just spent a day or two in 'European Iceland' on either side of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

I would buy things to eat from the supermarkets, preferably the cheapest one, Bónus.
In the Reykjavík Area you should deffinately see the Blue Lagoon, ?ingvellir national park, Geysir and Gullfoss (the Golden waterfall) - the last three being part of the Golden Circle.
If you've got time/money, for example a week I would do the round trip, the cheapest way to do that is if you can hire a car with more people or go by bus.
