 java.net: Getting Groovy with XML
But again, "I don't seriously think that people will start replacing XSLT with Groovy code." This article was really about getting some visibility for Groovy and E4X.
When integrating Groovy into your application is as simple as creating an interpreter and asking the class loader for a class, you have to think about all of the things you can do in the script layer as part of rapid prototyping, things that can then be brought back into the Java layer for efficiency.
Reading the article it seemed more and more as it went along that all the supposed advantages of Groovy in clarifying the code were actually from using XPath and restructuring the code to be clearer, something that could just have been done to the java.

Groovy can be used as an embedded language for dynamic business rules or extension points utilizing the agility of Groovy and saving the cost of redeploying applications for each change of rule (especially when the rules are stored in a database).
Groovy can be used (and indeed is already being used) as a replacement for Java for small and medium sized applications to execute on the Java 2 Platform.
Groovy is designed to help you get things done on the Java 2 Platform in a quick, concise and fun way — Groovy brings the power of a scripting language directly into the Java 2 Platform.

 Musings in History
While watching 'The Royal Tenenbaums' I seriously did not know half the time whether I was supposed to laugh or cry (which I realize is somewhat cliche, but in this case, very true).
My best assumption is that it's satirical, attempting to mock truly serious drama of a similar nature, but it simply doesn't work, as most films of this satirical genre, though often subtle, are obviously poking fun.
Some may be tempted to state that perhaps I did not enjoy this film because I'm not mature enough to understand it, or some such thing, but my feeling is that I didn't enjoy this film simply because it truly sucks.

Taking Children Seriously - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Taking Children Seriously, or sometimes simply TCS, is an educational philosophy founded by the libertarians Sarah Fitz-Claridge and David Deutsch.
What distinguishes TCS parenting and education from other such philosophies is that in TCS families, instead of the parents imposing their will on their children, or self-sacrificing for their children, parents and children work together to find real solutions to any problems or disagreements they have.
It is based upon the idea that it is possible and desirable to raise and educate children without either doing anything to them against their will, or making them do anything against their will.

If Groovy is supposed to ever be taken seriously as a scripting language by the Unix/Linux/Mac OS X crew, then it needs to look like a scripting language!
I think there shouldn't be any consideration given to having groovy taken seriously by non-java users.
I see the priority as getting a scripting language for java environments, period, and not competing with perl/python/shell.

Buy Education: Child's Work: Taking Children's Choices Seriously
Nancy Wallace's book has been in print for almost 10 years now, and there have been dozens of homeschooling books since - how-to's, diatribes, anthologies, talk with the experts, etc. - but there is no book which is more respectful of the intellgience and in-born learning quests of children.
It thoughtfully explains how children, left to their own devices, are capable of learning about what ever subject they chose inspite of what some professional educators would have you think.
Nancy Wallace's accounts of how her children have grown and learned without adult interference are inspiring to those of us who wish to follow in her footsteps.

Children’s Rights and Power, by Mary John
Arguing that children are rarely included in debates on social accountability, freedom and autonomy and are excluded from statistics, she compares the situation of children to that of other powerless minority groups, 'silenced' because of their lack of economic force.
Children's aspirations rather than their needs shifted the emphasis to their account of their experiences and the meaning they attached to these experiences rather than having them interpreted by adults as their needs.
She explores this issue objectively yet compassionately, comparing the situation of children to that of powerless minority groups and asking why children are rarely included in debates on social responsibility, freedom and autonomy.
