  Britain.tv Wikipedia - Joule
The joule (symbol: J) is the SI unit of energy, which is defined as the potential to do work.
As a rough guide, 1 joule is the absolute minimum amount of energy required to lift a one kilogram object up by a height of 10 centimetres on the surface of Earth.
Its value was found by James Prescott Joule in experiments that showed the mechanical energy Joule's equivalent, and represented by the symbol J. The term was first introduced by Dr. Mayer of Heilbronn.

Inactivation of the pro-apoptotic tumor suppressor p53 by E6 is an important mechanism by which E6 promotes cell growth; it is expected that inactivation of p53 by E6 should lead to a reduction in cellular apoptosis, numerous studies showed that E6 could in fact sensitize cells to apoptosis.
E6 proteins from different HPV types or among the animal and human papillomaviruses show moderate amino acid homology.
E6 binding to TNF R1 probably interfered with formation of the death-inducing signaling complex and thus with transduction of apoptotic signals.

The viral genes E6 and E7 are necessary for the malignant conversion.
The ability of high-risk HPV E6 and E7 proteins to associate with tumor suppressors p53 and pRB respectively has been suggested as a mechanism by which these viral proteins induce tumors.
Our long-term goal is to develop a comprehensive program to study the biological activities of papillomavirus E6 and E7 oncoproteins, their interactions with cellular proteins, the functions of these cellular proteins, the molecular genetics of cervical cancer, and cancer prevention/therapy.

In contrast to TNF-mediated apoptosis, E6 and E7 demonstrated opposite effects: while E7 potentiated apoptosis triggered by an agonistic Fas antibody, E6 attenuated the effect.
To further explore the mechanisms by which E6 and E7 modulate Fas-mediated apoptosis, we examined the surface expression of Fas in cells expressing E6 and E7.
Significantly, levels of surface Fas expression correlated with the opposing effects of E6 and E7 on Fas-mediated apoptosis.
