Nephi' identification with Christ, however, is dependant upon his vision of Christ which was part of his vision of the Tree of Life, and a theme for his entire ministry.
Nephi ends his lecture with the reassurance that the righteous need not fear, and a confirmation that the righteous may be found among "all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people".
Nephi's exhortation to his brothers now reiterates both Nephi's source of information (the brass plates) and the essential corporal reality of these prophecies (that the things "written upon the plates of brass are true").

Desert Epiphany: Sariah and the Women in 1 Nephi - Maxwell Institute JBMS
Nephi frequently commented that his father was a wealthy man. He referred to the family's "gold and silver, and all manner of riches" (1 Nephi 3:16), their "precious things" (1 Nephi 2:4; 3:22), and Laban's lustful response to the abundance of Lehi's family property (see 1 Nephi 3:25).
Nephi was not personally present to witness Sariah's fears, but he recorded her experience as among those "things which are pleasing unto God" (1 Nephi 6:5).
Nephi reported that most of the men "murmured exceedingly" because of their afflictions, namely Laman and Lemuel and the two sons of Ishmael; "and also my father began to murmur against the Lord his God" (1 Nephi 16:20).

We see between 1 Ne 1:4-6 a pattern: (1) a prophetic message is heard; (2) a prayer of faith is offered; (3) revelation important to the individual's success and survival is given, and (4) the relevant portion of the message is delivered to others.
Nephi's text might be read as inviting readers to a sort of progression from the vision of the heavenly council to eventual participation in it.
Nephi thereafter says explicitly that he is not allowed to describe what would follow (2 Ne 32:7).

Nephi himself showed great empathy and respect for the suffering of the women during his family’s journey, and pays specific tribute to the hardships sustained by his own mother (1 Nephi 5:1-3, 18:17,19).
Nephi also included on the plates the efforts of one of his sister-in-laws and his mother-in-law for softening the hearts of Laman and Lemuel so that they cease trying to murder him (1 Nephi 7:19).
Nephi appears to have been humbled by the sacrifice the women made as they bore children in the wilderness, and takes the time and effort to record these wilderness deliveries on the golden plates (1 Nephi 17:1).

Nephi sees the termination of his seed, and notes that the cause is their pride and the temptations of the devil.
Nephi also sees that the seed of his brethren will continue and be capable of being defined as "multitudes." It is interesting that this is still not placed "on the map." It is entirely unclear is Nephi knows where these multitudes will be.

There, Nephi was summoned by the Lord to a mountain where he was instructed to build a ship to carry the group to a land of promise.

But contrast Nephi’s complete confidence that the Lord will help him fulfill the commandment to go and get the plates with 2 Ne 4:27 where Nephi laments his imperfections and seeming inability to finally conquer sin and temptation.
There is an apparent inconsistency in the fact that Nephi in one circumstance has complete trust that the Lord will “prepare a way” to keep commandments and yet in another laments the fact that he does not seem able to overcome sin--which in one sense is simply the failure to keep the commandments.
In 1 Nephi 3, the commandment is a special mission, while in 2 Nephi 4 the theme relates to personal righteousness in the general sense.

The Great and Abominable Church — 1 Nephi 13-14
Nephi tells us that this church is "most abominable above all other churches" (1 Nephi 13:5 and 26) and he makes plain that this is a specific historical organization.
Nephi's definition goes even further: "whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God, belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations." So, which is it?
Nephi, specifically relates his vision and its account to the future vision to be received by the apostle, John, and to the record of that vision which John would write.

The name "Nephi" may have been derived from the Apocrypha, with which Joseph Smith appears to have been familiar.
It is very strange that Nephi fails to mention that the city had already been beseiged once by Nebuchadnezzar, and that he had carried away ten thousand captives before this point.
In 600 BC, when the Lehites left Jerusalem, the concept of a semi-divine being who would bring salvation to mankind did not exist in Judaism, and is not present in the Old Testament, despite the imaginative attempts of the New Testament writers to make it so.

 Nephite Calendar
Nephi tells the same story for the first year of Zedekiah: prophets began to preach the destruction and captivity of Jerusalem and were rejected by unbelievers who thought such predictions were impossible.
Thus, let us adopt the working hypothesis that Nephi is referring to 608 BC as the first year of Zedekiah, and that Lehi began to preach before Nebuchadnezzar appeared on the scene in 605 BC.
On the day which would have been 1 First, 510 Lehi, the Nephites began to number the years from the reign of the judges, so let us call that day 1 First, 1 Judges (the New Year's Day was not changed).

Nephi doesn't actually give it a name, just a description.
He records that his father Lehi awoke one morning to find this astonishing brass ball outside his tent door, with "spindles" seen inside the ball to guide Lehi's wandering group through the wilderness (1 Nephi 16:10).
So the supernatural features of the Liahona are represented in the pre-translation life experience of Joseph and Oliver, who worked together dictating and writing the text of 1 Nephi 16 (as well as the rest of the book).
