10 Hygiea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
10 Hygiea (hye-jee'-a or hi-jee'-a) is the fourth largest main belt asteroid with a diameter of 407 km.
Hygiea is composed of primitive carbonaceous material similar to the chondrite meteorites.
It is the main member of the Hygiea family.

2 The asteroid masses and densities   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
Details of residuals for (7) Iris are taken from determinations of mass of (10) Hygiea; for (15) Eunomia and (88) Thisbe the standard deviations of (7) Iris residuals are very close.
In the least-squares adjustment, the initial masses of (10) Hygiea, (52) Europa, (511) Davida and (704) Interamania were the same as in the standard dynamical model (Table 1).
The mass of Hygiea obtained from Iris for the extended model is almost twice as large as for the standard model.

(10) Hygiea, (15) Eunomia, (52) Europa, (511) Davida and (704) Interamnia) the masses obtained are an improvement of the values found by other authors.
The old observations are most important for asteroids (1150) Achaia (for the mass of (6) Hebe), (829) Academia (for the mass of (10) Hygiea) and (993) Moultona (for the mass of both (52) Europa and (704) Interamnia).
On the other hand, further observations will be required for asteroids (111) Ate and (209) Dido (for the mass of (10) Hygiea), (84) Klio (for the mass of (52) Europa), (54) Alexandra (for the mass of (444) Gyptis) and (95) Arethusa (for the mass of (704) Interamnia).

 Hygiea, discovery
Hygiea or 10 is a little asteroid situated between Mars and Jupiter orbit.
Its excentricity is 0.1194 a clasic number to asteroid kinds, by the way, at perihelion Hygiea is situated at 2.76 A.U. and aphelion at 3.51 A.U. Medium distance is 3.138 AU.
The orbital period of Hygiea is 5.56 years and its inclination with the ecliptic plane is 3.84º.

The asteroids 10 Hygiea, 241 Germania and 509 Iolanda have been studied photometrically.
The period found for 241 Germania is a significant revision from one previously published, and we present a first indication of pole orientation and shape.
The solution obtained for the sense of rotation, sidereal period, pole orientation and shape properties for 10 Hygiea confirms previous results.

Although none is visible to the naked eye, many can be seen at times with binoculars or small telescopes, including the four largest: (1) Ceres, (2) Pallas, (4) Vesta, and (10) Hygiea.
Thirty known asteroids exceed 200 km in diameter and the census of asteroids larger than 100 km in diameter is believed to be virtually complete.
Most asteroids move in orbits that are somewhat more inclined and eccentric than those of the major planets (with the exception of Pluto) — the orbit of an average main-belt asteroid being inclined at about 10° to the plane of the ecliptic with an eccentricity of about 0.15.

This effect can be compared with the perturbation of Ceres on the orbit of (203) Pompeja, which is more than 80" in right ascension between 1879 and 1994 (Viateau 1995) and also on the orbit of (348) May, which is more than 100" in right ascension between 1892 and 1989 (Williams 1992).
On this subject, in an editorial notice on MPC 25257 (issued 1995 Aug. 10), it was noted that henceforth the standard perturbers applied to any new perturbed orbit computation at the Minor Planet Center would include (1) Ceres, (2) Pallas and (4) Vesta as a matter of course.
Moreover, such a perturbation should allow a very interesting determination of the mass of Vesta after 10 or 15 years of good post-encounter observations of Thetis, since the currently available observations of Thetis are quite abundant, with 1037 observations between 1852 and 1994.

 Your Good Health is Essential
The Hygiea Square was a telegram form the Cosmos to me, that there was a strong possibility that health was going to be an issue, but I mustn’t have read it; I was feeling good to this point in time and had no reason to think that I would be ‘sick’.
When Hygiea is here, there can also be ‘pain and suffering’ from health problems due to Hygiea’s opposition to N Chiron at 12 Capricorn.
Seemingly, Hygiea is calling attention to a problem that I have internally, that has the doctors somewhat bewildered, or ‘unusual’.

The radio emission increased dramatically during the impacts; the change was wavelength dependent, ranging from around 10% at 70-90 cm to about 45% at 3.5-6 cm.
High-frequency VLA and ATCA observations showed that the thermal disk remained unaltered by the impact, whereas the non-thermal radiation and polarization from the Jovian Van Allen belts increased; the enhancement was localized in longitude and concentrated near the equator.
