LONDON, England: Jamaican-born, Mary Seacole was named the 'Greatest Black Briton' after topping the vote in a campaign that was launched last October to name the 100 Greatest Black Britons.
The man behind the concept, Patrick Vernon, said the aim was to bring about a balance to the campaign by the BBC to name 100 Great Britons that did not include anyone from the ethnic minority communities.
The 100 Great Black Britons had the support of the Greater London Authority (GLA) and was launched by the Mayor of London, Ken Livingston.

I'm sure most of you are now aware of last Sunday's countdown for The Top 100 Great Britons here in the UK, (sorry, computer problems have delayed some of my postings) but if you aren't, read on.
Whatever your opinion of the final positions (I'm saying nothing) David Bowie did manage a very impressive number 29, not bad when you consider how many Britons have lived and died, (Probably loads!) and even better when you consider the only musicians with a higher placing were Lennon and McCartney.
The BBC2 series culminates in a live studio show in November, when the greatest Briton, as voted by the general public, will be announced.

So, like, I open up Arts & Letters Daily today, and they've got a blurb about the BBC's 100 Greatest Britons of all time poll/tv series.
Yes, such lists are nonsense compiled by loons, and yet the magickal side of me is delighted to see William Blake, Uncle Aleister, and JK Rowling and JRR Tolkein all listed when there's only one other spiritual figure (The Christian John Wesley) in the top 100 Brits.
While I like J K Rowling I'm not sure she's one of the most important Britons of all time.

Firstly, to nominate great Poles for the top 100 and then, secondly to sort the top 10 into a final order.
Poland produces great sportsmen and popular entertainers who are regarded with respect and affection but maybe we take “greatest” more seriously.
