In contrast to other types of Shinkansen on the line, whose interior design is a mixture of beiges and creams- 'dishwater' colours, the 500 series is finished in a striking mottled pink design in standard accommodation, and in a tasteful brown in the 'Green Cars', the equivalent of First Class.
Coupled with the frequency of the Shinkansen service- for example, there are six trains an hour between Osaka and Hiroshima, a distance of some 340 kilometres- it would be difficult not to favour the Japanese now.
All Shinkansen lines (the name Shinkansen, strictly speaking, refers to the line and not to the train) are dedicated for use by Shinkansen trains only, and the superb condition of the line obviously plays a large part both in the speeds attained and in the comfort of the ride.

As of the middle of September 2003, I've got a complete (16-car) 100-series Shinkansen and an E3 Komachi Shinkansen model, plus one steam engine (D51 498, a 2-8-2 that ran next to the E3 during its opening).
The setting is the early 1990's (probably '93), and 100-series shinkansen trains offering "Kedakasa" ("Nobility") service between the fictional city of Shujinkoumachi and the rural mountain town Mokidate to the north.
I'm more of a modeler than a train operator, so my objective in designing the layout was to provide an interesting setting for a Shinkansen train to run about in.

700 and 500 series are used on the nozomi.
Some 700 series used to run as hikari, but not anymore, I think.
The large JR timetable books indicate which trains are formed of 500 or 700 series stock, so those without any indication are 300 series, as is the case with the Kodama 535 and 534 trains you asked about.
