The American Film Institute on Tuesday unveiled 400 songs vying to be the favorite music in films as part of it "100 years" series of annual events spotlighting film history.
100 Songs" is the seventh list put together by the American Film Institute, or AFI, which is one of the United States' top groups for film preservation and education.
The top 100 songs are chosen by a jury of 1,500 directors, screenwriters, actors, critics, and others among the film industry's creative community, as well as by AFI's national membership.

The American Film Institute (AFI) has announced "AFI's 100 Years...100 Heroes & Villains" to be the annual theme for AFI's ongoing celebration of 100 years of American movies.
For the sixth consecutive year, the primetime special will be executive produced and directed by Gary Smith; executive produced for AFI by former AFI Board chair Frederick S. Pierce; and produced by Dann Netter and Bob Gazzale.
This year, the jury will be asked to choose 50 heroes and 50 villains from an extensive list of characters such as James Bond, Indiana Jones, Hannibal Lecter and The Wicked Witch of the West.

The first modern World Series, 100 years old this fall, came about largely through the farsighted efforts of Barney Dreyfuss, the progressive owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
This series would be the capper to the agreement both leagues reached after two years of acrimony, which included the luring of many established NL stars to the new league.
There is a Pittsburgh side to the first World Series and even an equal to the Globe's Murnane -- Ralph Davis, known for his "flowing tie" and pen of the old Pittsburgh Press -- but you won't find it here.

When I was about eight there would be some sawmill workers come by our house twice daily in their Model T and I had such an interest in cars that I would go down and stand by the road to hear and see it go by.
Sixty years later I can still hear the square cut gears whining in that "T Mammy." And then later we moved to another place and school, but the school bus was still a Ford and the mail rider was in a Ford pickup.
Years ago I recall seeing pictures of the engines which were things of beauty with cast bronze cylinder head, double overhead cams, multiple carbs and exhaust.

I would hazard a guess that she was in her time an authority on the subject of Italian villas and gardens as in later years Julia Child became an authority on the subject of French cuisine.
In Wharton's time the area around Florence was filled with young college women from the United States who came to have their sculpted wax sketches pointed and finished life-size in marble by the patient and often grateful stone masons and artisans of Carrara and adjacent quarries.
