		These 1000 km diameter objects bridge the gap from Pluto to the more commonly measured KBOs having diameter scales of a few 100 km.
		The main significance of these 1000 km scale KBOs is that they confirm extrapolations previously made from the size distribution of smaller (100 km to 600 km diameter) KBOs.
		On a practical level, the 1000 km objects are bright enough to permit meaningful physical studies (of reflection spectra, colors, rotational lightcurves) which will eventually help us understand something about the origin and processing of KBOs.

		The 1000 is not a part of the basic Super Randonneur (200, 300, 400, 600 km) series, and is never as grand as the marquee 1200s (PBP, BMB, Rocky Mt. 1200, GRR...) Most 1000s in BC are ridden alone or in small groups with no fanfare, and often with limited or no support.
		Despite the seriousness of the physical challenge, the logistical complexities, and the total absence of glory, BC riders have been curiously attracted to the 1000 km, and this has been true from beginnings of the club in 1979.
		The 1000 km has been unique in another way here in BC - traditionally there has been some flexibility for riders to choose their own routes and riding dates.

		Meine beiden Freunde und ich machten uns nach Schulschluß mit unseren Fahrrädern auf den 15 KM langen Weg zum Nürburgring - es galt, nichts zu verpassen.
		Der sympathische Fahrer aus Leonberg bei Stuttgart sollte sein letztes 1000 KM Rennen fahren, das Rennfahrerschicksal ereilte ihn nur wenige Monate später an gleicher Stelle,als er beim Training zum Grand Prix von Deutschland mit seinem BMW F2 im Streckenabschnitt “Schwedenkreuz” tödlich verunglückte.
		Und Zuschauer jede Menge, es war gerammelt voll bei Start and Ziel, wie auch um die gesamte Strecke, wie immer bei den 1000 KM Rennen.
