:: F.A.Q. :: The World Art Names - Add your name to the World Art History!
You will see that the Virtual World Map on the main page is divided into 5,100 of these 100-pixel blocks (hence there are 510,000 pixels in total).
Total Earth square is 510 000 000km2, but it can be very large picture, so I decided to equate 1 pixel to 1000km2.
Hence, we have Word Art Map with Art Names (WorldArtNames.com) which is limited by 510 00 pixels/km2.

WWF - Norsk Hydro may withdraw from controversial hydro power project
The environmental damage caused by the project will be far greater than that caused by any previous comparable project in Iceland.
The direct impact area covers some 1000km2 in the highlands north of the Vatnajoekull Glacier, one of the largest remaining wilderness areas in Western Europe.
Construction of not only the dams, but also ditches and channels, diversions, reservoirs, and roads will affect or destroy rare oases of highland vegetation that are characterized by dense and diverse plant species.

South American oil companies sign partnership agreement for oil & gas exploration offshore Argentina
According to the contract terms, Repsol YPF and its partners will fully cover the investments in the exploration stage which is estimated to cost between US$40 and US$100 million.
As the operator, Repsol YPF will be responsible for the acquisition of 1000km2 of 3D seismic data.
It is understood that the first well will be drilled in 2008 when the processing of the seismic data should have been concluded.

The change in area (x 1000km2) for eight broad landcover classes.
The data were taken from figures supplied in the 'Vegetation' volume of the Atlas of Australian Resources, third series, AUSLIG (1990).
The conversion (thinning) of some categories to the next most open category can be interpreted as a consequence of the cumulative impacts of grazing by livestock.

Large epithermal systems have been recognized in Northland where Aurora Minerals has the Hazelbrook (1000km2) and Lanigans (200km2) projects which it is currently exploring for large Martha Hill type epithermal gold deposits.
The Northland Volcanic Zone is an older part of the volcanic arc which also passed through the gold rich Coromandel Peninsula to the south and from which 12 million oz of gold have been produced.
The Company's policy has been not to enter the target area on this permit without Maori approval which to date has not been received.

WWF - How local people are helping the situation   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
One of the most successful initiatives that Noah initiated was the creation of a scout's association.
Twelve men, comprised of both Maasais and non-Maasais, formed a formidable team who, together, covered the entire 1000km2 in which the elephants still roam in the TransMara.
Armed with a bicycle and a GPS receiver (an electronic instrument that provides geographical coordinates from satellites), they help gather the information Noah needs to predict when and where human elephant conflict situations would arise.

Lake Erie   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
Mean reflectances in the Maumee Bay region of western Lake Erie doubled from approximately 2 percent (corresponding to seston and Secchi disk depth (SD) estimates of 1.4 mg/L and 4.9m, respectively) in early August to 4.5 percent (with seston and SD estimates of 16.1 mg/L and 0.9m, respectively) during mid-September.
Estimates of the surface area of the western Lake Erie blooms ranged from 250km2 to over 1000km2.
By associating satellite reflectances with Microcystis cell concentrations, AVHRR reflectance imagery provides an inexpensive means of tracking and monitoring toxic algal blooms.

Normally male movements would be curtailed by the presence of other males in neighbouring territories.
However in Hwange, because male density is low, males tend to move extensively and may have ranges of up to 1000km2 (around three times the size of a female’s range).
Extensive ranges and long distances moved increase the probability that males will leave the protection of the park and move into hunting areas.

Overshadowed by these few world class cliffs the climbing potential of the peaks in the rest of the region is rarely reported.
This is a shame since the land between Tasermiut Fjord and Augpilatoq alone offers somewhat over 1000km2 of relatively accessible granite mountains rising with well-defended buttresses and faces from 1000m to 1500m out of the fjords.
Every part of the region provides ranges of towers and spires equally impressive as the Chamonix Aiguilles, which would make a fairly good comparison.

 Cheetah Conservation Fund
Radio-collared female cheetahs were more closely related to other cheetahs in the study area than males, indicating male dispersal.
Continual cheetah perturbation may partially explain the unusually low density of cheetahs in this area (estimated at only 2.5 cheetahs per 1000km2) despite the apparent abundance of prey.
Namibian farmers originally surveyed revealed a mean removal of 19 cheetahs per year/farm, even when not considered a problem, and higher removals occurred on game farms.

 Scale Outbreak - Past Findings
Measuring ecological processes on substrates of known ages provides a powerful tool in understanding the long-term dynamics of important ecological processes (72) and allows us to test predictions about controlling factors.
Although our findings on changing scale densities across a soil successional gradient are impressive (see Past Findings #6) and reflect what we believe is a common pattern across the ~1000km2 of the El Malpais lava fields, they are nevertheless preliminary and greater replication is needed.
Most importantly, these findings do not conclusively establish that abiotic stress leads to plant stress and that increased plant stress at El Malpais leads to increased herbivory.
