The Royal Regiment of Artillery, generally known as the Royal Artillery (RA), is, despite its name, a corps of the British Army.
The regiment was under the control of the Board of Ordnance until the Board was abolished in 1855.
In the Royal Artillery, it equips 16 Regiment, and a battery of 106 Regiment RA(V).

The Royal Regiment of Artillery, generally known as the Royal Artillery (RA), is, despite its name, a corps of the British Army It is made up of a number of regiments.
In 1861 the regiment also absorbed the artillery of the British East India Company – 21 horse batteries and 48 field batteries – which brought its strength up to 29 horse batteries, 73 field batteries and 88 heavy batteries.
On 1 July 1899, the Royal Artillery was divided into two groups: the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery comprised one group, while the coastal defence, mountain, siege and heavy batteries were split off into another group named the Royal Garrison Artillery.

 1st Volunteer Artillery (Tynemouth) Association
The Tynemouth Volunteer Artillery Association was first founded on Armistice Day 1959, by serving members of 439 Regt and ex members of 404 (Coast Artillery) Regt and 64 (HAA) Regt to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the formation of the first volunteer artillery unit in the British Army.
In October of the same year the Regiment was honoured by the City of Newcastle upon Tyne when it was granted the Freedom of the City at a parade which took place within one month of the Regiment's return from participation in its first major exercise in Germany, "Crusader 1980".
During the 1880's the government was again proceeding with a coastal artillery review, it was agreed that the castle should be re-armed, but no definite decision on which type of gun and when they would be installed was taken, the volunteers however did practice on the guns present,, which did at times change.

All Royal Guard Regiments are part of the Royal Guard Corps, which falls under the direct command of HRM the King, the Commander-in-Chief, Royal Armed Forces.

Until the 15th, the regiment was engaged in erecting forts and in performing guard duty, and was almost constantly under fire from the enemy's forts, lying in the meanwhile under shelter tents in a low marsh, barely above tide water, and in constant expectation of being attacked.
The narrow neck of ground over which the troops must advance was barely sufficient to deploy one regiment, and this was swept by the guns of the fort and from the rifle-pits and defences in the rear.
On the 4th of August, the regiment was moved by transport to Acquia Creek, and thence by rail to Fredericksburg, where the troops under General Stevens from South Carolina, and those from North Carolina, under General Burnside, were united, and were placed under the command of General Reno, subsequently known as the Ninth Corps.

Early History and Organization.—The Regiment originated as an artillery unit on 1st July, 1936, when the Headquarters and the 97th (Bruce), 98th (Bruce) and 99th Field Batteries of 21st Field Brigade, R.C.A., were organized from The Wellington Regiment and The Bruce Regiment.
These Regiments were originally organ-ized on 14th September, 1866, as the 30th Battalion of Wellington Rifles and the 32nd Bruce Battalion of Infantry respectively, and became the 30th Regiment "Wellington Rifles" and the 32nd Bruce Regiment on 8th May, 1900.
The 100th Field Battery was mobilized on 1st September, 1939, was converted and redesignated 100th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery, a sub-unit of the 4th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, with which it served in North-West Europe.

 Gordon Highlanders History of the Regiment
In 1787 the 75th Regiment, the forerunner of the 1st battalion The Gordon Highlanders, was raised for service in the Far east, but it was not until 1793 when the French Revolutionary Government had declared war on Great Britain that the Government asked the Duke of Gordon to raise another regiment.
It was at Gibraltar that the regiment, at that time not yet the 92nd, but the 100th Regiment of Foot, received their first colours and soon afterwards they were in Ireland making the acquaintance of Major-General John Moore with whom they were to serve on many historic occasions.
And in the East two other units of the regiment, 100th Anti/Tank Regiment Royal Artillery, (The Gordon Highlanders) and the 116th Regiment, Royal Armoured Corp, (The Gordon Highlanders) were there at the defence of Kohima and N.E India, and in the drive which cleared Burma of the Japanese.

 BRIEF HISTORY OF THE 100TH PVI
Because the 100th Pennsylvania regiment was assigned as skirmishers rather than as part of an assaulting brigade, it was fortunately not as severe a battle for them compared to other regiments.
In April of 1864 the regiment spent time around Annapolis, MD. Toward the end of April the Roundheads would be marching toward the first of a series of battles in Grant's Virginia campaign of 1864, the Battle of the Wilderness.
For the Roundheads as a regiment, the battle at Spottsylvania Courthouse on May 12, 1864 was the most costly with 44 men killed or mortally wounded.
