Lalor, Cyclopaedia of Political Science, V.3, Entry 195, SLAVERY: Library of Economics and Liberty
The states and the nation began their course under the constitution with the same general system as before, but with three modifications: the apportionment of representation to three-fifths of the slaves; the power of congress to prohibit the slave trade after 1808; and the fugitive slave clause.
Upon the admission of Louisiana as a state, the continuance of the custom of slavery in the rest of the purchase was practically provided for by the sixteenth section of the act of June 4, 1812, continuing the territorial laws of Louisiana in the new territory of Missouri.
The modern states of Kentucky and Tennessee, for example, were never colonies or territories of their parent states: they were integral parts of Virginia and North Carolina, and the custom of slavery was established at Nashville or Harrodsburgh on just the same basis as at Beaufort or Richmond.

 Rep. Julia Carson Website
Those are the kind of issues that we need to be exploring for the children of America, and not providing some peeping tom, ill-conceived, 110th time in the Congress on an abortion issue.
We have voted $594 million worth of pay raises for this Congress since I have been in here, but we have not done diddly squat about all of these innocent and vulnerable children who have been kidnapped from their homes who are being killed on their driveways by predators.
Speaker, in 1997, and since the time that I was sworn in to the 105th Congress, I have had to vote on abortion 109 times; 109 times this House, this United States Congress has brought before it this issue of abortion.

United States, [36] Justice O'Connor [37] applied the principle of political accountability to a Tenth Amendment analysis to determine whether Congress had unconstitutionally limited state autonomy.
State officials bear the cost of federally-mandated state regulations, when it is the federal government that should have to answer for its actions.
United States, has held that the background check provision of the Brady Act is consistent with the Tenth Amendment.

 Was the 1898 annexation illegal?
U.S. Public Law 103-150 was passed by both houses of Congress and signed into law by President Clinton in 1993, to acknowledge the 100th anniversary of the Jan. 17, 1893, overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawai'i, and to offer an apology to Native Hawaiians on behalf of the United States for the overthrow.
Only in the 50th state, and the rest of the United States, are pro-sovereignty activists free to march and demonstrate, and I to opine.
Thus, the annexation was not necessary according to the queen's surrender, because she had already handed power directly to the United States, and her surrender has not yet been undone by the United States, as she required.

The intent of Congress in enacting the forfeiture statute is to punish, deter and disempower criminals.
Wendling testified, and the United States has not refuted, that she had no knowledge that her son was growing marijuana at the Ashby Property, and she would not have agreed with it if she had found out prior to her son’s arrest.
On February 10, 2004, the United States filed a Superseding Indictment alleging, among other things, that Defendant participated in a conspiracy to manufacture marijuana plants, and sought forfeiture of the Ashby Property because the property was used “to commit or facilitate the commission” of the crime.

The first was in the 107th Congress, the second in the 108th, and the third in the 109th.
Each has been proposed during the 1st Session of each Congress, which means these guys are pretty urgent that their recommendations be taken seriously.
but even if somehow gets through congress, it has to be ratified by 38 states, and there are more than 13 states with dem controlled legislatures

As the chart on Page 9 of the report indicates, women in Blue states tend to start their families later (median age for first birth is 26-years-old or older) than women in the Red states (median age for first birth is 25-years-old or younger.

MyDD :: 14% of U.S. Senators, 18% of current Governors are women
Interestingly, the United States Senate in the 110th Congress will have 14 women, 2 Asian-Americans (Inouye, Akaka), 2 Latino (Martinez, Salazar) and 1 African-American (Obama), indicating that diversity is starting to trickle into the " world's most exclusive club."
Female Senators in the 110th Congress (Jan 2005)

MyDD :: Kolbe Retires, Opening Pick Up Opportunity for Dems
But today's news offers the Democrats a solid pick up opportunity that could put Nancy Pelosi one step closer to the Speaker's chair in the 110th Congress.
Short of a Graf win in the GOP primary, the Democrats might have had a difficult time winning in Arizona's eight congressional district before Kolbe's retirement announcement even though President Bush only carried the district with 53 percent of the vote in 2004 and 49 percent in 2000.
Former GOP state lawmaker and immigration hawk Randy Graf was already challenging Kolbe in the 2006 party primary.
