The extension of the Iron Age I material culture into the late tenth century BCE is unjustified and leads to a distorted archaeological picture of the period of the United Monarchy, and ultimately to misleading historical conclusions.
The constant recurrence of this type of house within a defined geographical region and during a limited time span of the EB I-II transition indicates that this form of construction is to be seen as a distinct architectural tradition characteristic only of this period.
The first appearance of this distinct architectural plan is concurrent with the initial stages of urbanization in Canaan and may be seen as a hybrid mid-phase between the curvilinear sausage-shaped architecture typical of the non-urban EB IA (3500-3300 BCE) period and the rectilinear, angled-corner architecture characteristic of the urban EB II period (3100-2650 BCE).

He studied "Yugoslav singers" an existent element of a cultural group that maintained an oral tradition, one that brought from the past poems and tales of a common heritage.
In studying the singers Lord noted that the singers did not have an "ability to distinguish between one version of a tale from another (since they lack a written version to compare.)"[2] Lords use of the Yugoslav singers provides interesting and viable parallels of what might have been functionally possible in 8th century, BCE.
It seems, on the surface, that Lord shows the potential of orality, but beyond that conclusions need to be guarded with a heavy dose of cultural skepticism.
