		Ja 1260 was one of 35 Ja class locomotives built by the NZR, which were a locally built (and virtually identical) version of the earlier J class (not to be confused with the J class of 1874).
		Ja 1260 was one of the last steam locomotives to be withdrawn from service, and after withdrawal it was acquired by the Plains Railway.
		Ja 1260 has seen some use on the Plains Railway, but it has been the subject of a comprehensive overhaul and is currently nearing completion from restoration at Plains.
