Before that, films were just identified by the name of the cameras they were intended for.
For roll holder means film for cartridge roll holders, allowing roll film to be used with cameras designed to use glass plates.
The film format would thus be exactly the same as the size of the print -- so if you wanted large prints, you would have to use a large camera and corresponding film format.

With two little blades positioned somewhere in the film path at the right distance apart, it should be possible to insert a film, close the back, and transport it through the cutter using the camera's winding knob, leaving a strip of film the right width for 127.
Vincent Chan's neat design for a film slitter, both for 127 and the tiny Minox film, should be well within the scope of an average DIY mechanic.
They should be able to develop C-41 and E-6 film for you, since most of them use continuous processors and hooking a couple of rolls of a special size on isn't difficult.

Comparing the Spartus Miniature Half-frame 127 roll film camera to the 35mm Argus A. I was given the Spartus Miniature by my mother when I was about 13 and I used it for several years.
There is only one sprocket and it is not used to advance the film; only to stop the film after one frame advance and advance the frame counter.
The film pressure plate is fastened to the camera back with foam to provide some flexibility.

127 film is designed to give 12 square, 4x4 cm, or 8 rectangular, 4x6.5 cm images per roll, depending on the camera you use.
When 127 film is reversal processed and mounted in "superslide" mounts, which fit standard 35mm projectors, you can project images substantially larger than 35mm slides, with tremendous visual impact.
We have tested this film extensively, and find it to be a true ISO 100 film with very fine grain, natural contrast, and exceptionally good color fidelity under natural light and with electronic flash.

The film had been cut at a taper, too narrow to bridge the filmgate of my camera and thus the focus was totally off since the film was not all the way in the film plane - the film curl put much os the film's surface inside the throat of the camera.
I got the EFKE 127 film, ASA 100, and have shot a roll and developed it in T-Max developer in a Patterson developing tank (the Patterson reels adjust for 127!) and the results are beautiful.
As for the length of film, a solution may be to first measure the length of the original 127 film and paper.

These cameras use 127 film but make pictures with a format of 4x4.5 cm.
In 1940 the 127 film backing paper was not marked for 12 exposure framing (superslides) and certainly not for this oddball format.
Kimura solved this problem by having spaced numbers on the wind knob which was set at 1 when the film was started at 1 in the red window.

 Gray Baby Rollei infomation
As others haven't said, if you find Film For Classics, who also sell 127 film, be very careful with their own respooled 127 film.
The film is JandC BandW 127 film still in cellophane wrapper and if you want it for less than you could get it for at JandC let me know.
For color transparency film, you have two choices: Kodak Ektachrome E100S in 127 size from BandH, which is okay but expensive (about $12 per roll), or Macochome 100 in 127 size from JandC and probably others, which is considerably cheaper, about $5 per roll.

Film For Classics has been selling fresh fl and white roll film for antique and classic cameras, including 127, 620 and 828 roll film.

I think that takes 127 film which you can get from Freestyle camera.
127 film is 40x40mm, the film size for this box camera of mine is 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" or roughly 82.5mm x 108mm...
The entire film will be exposed right to the edges, which will be kinda interesting.

At one point, I was attempting to modify vintage 127 film cameras to accept 35mm film, but never actually finished the experiment.
I forgot to mention that the 127 film spool is just slightly larger than 35mm film (maybe not even by a centimeter).

ISO 100 Black and White film is their only offering in 127 format though.
