		Vala is supposed to mean "chosen" (Welsh, Celtic, Gaelic...one of those, I think) and it fit her character pretty well.
		Vala (plural Valar) is also the name for the earth-bound gods in Tolkien's world.
		I picked it around the time that I got the previously mentioned Tolkien book and it gave me kind of a royalty/elven feel, which was perfect, since she was queen of the elves in what I was working on.

		On 2006 Jul 01 UT, the 40 km diameter asteroid (131) Vala will occult a 11.9 mag star in the constellation Sagittarius for observers along a path across the north Island of New Zealand, around Whakatane and Auckland.
		In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 1.4 mag to 12.9 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 4.3 seconds.
