Hanging - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
As a form of judicial execution in England, hanging is thought to date from the Saxon period, circa AD 400.
Records of the names of British hangmen begin with in the 1360s; complete records extend from the 1500s to the last hangmen, Robert Leslie Stewart and Harry Allen, who conducted the last British executions in 1964.
Early methods of hanging simply involved a hangman's noose on a rope placed around the victim's neck, with the loose end thrown over or tied to a tree branch; the hangman then drew up the criminal, who slowly strangled.

The Norton Anthology of English Literature: The Middle Ages: Review: Summary
The linguistic, political, and cultural climate in Britain by the 1360s allowed for a "flowering" of Middle English literature in the writings of Geoffrey Chaucer, William Langland, and the Gawain poet.
In terms of English history, the time span between the collapse of the Roman Empire and the Renaissance is called the Middle Ages, and the adjective "medieval" refers to whatever was made, written, or thought during the Middle Ages.
To finance his wars, Edward III was obliged to negotiate for revenues with the Commons in the English Parliament, allowing the institution to replace the church as a major political force.

In the thirteenth century, surcoats reinforced with metal plates riveted into the inside of the fabric were beginning to be used, and this idea was refined into a much more functional state with the development of the coat of plates.
A coat of plates consisted of a leather or cloth jerkin lined with overlapping plates of iron or steel which were riveted in place.
In the 1360s, it had evolved to cover down to the diaphragm, with extension plates down to the waist.

 Literary Encyclopedia: Chaucer, Geoffrey
Some time in the late 1360s he translated the popular French poem Le Roman de la Rose (The Romance of the Rose), for which he became very well-known.
Indeed, Chaucer's literary reputation in his own time was based as much on this translation as on his own original works.
It is also likely that he was writing lyrics and short verse in the popular French style, and quite possibly in French, throughout the 1360s, but the earliest surviving poem we have which is definitely by Chaucer and which can be dated with any confidence is The Book of the Duchess.

A History of the Swedish People   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Beginning in prehistoric times and culminating with the Dacke rebellion of 1542, renowned novelist Vilhelm Moberg’s two-volume popular history of the Swedish people approaches its subject from the viewpoint of the common people, documenting peasants’ lives as well as those of the royal families.
In this first volume Moberg examines Viking raids, the coming of Christianity, and the Folkungs royal dynasty, whose tyrannical reign lasted from 1250 to the 1360s.
He vividly describes the arrival of the Black Death from a ship that docked carrying only dead passengers, and he recounts the reign of Queen Margareta who founded the Kalmar Union, comprising all of Scandinavia.

For reasons explored elsewhere, by the 1340s, some Flemish and Brabantine towns had adjusted to this crisis by shifting production, as `price-makers', to very high-priced highly differentiated luxury woollens, which could better bear these rising transaction costs.
From the 1360s, English cloth manufacturers pursued this same route, while enjoying a virtual monopoly on very high quality wools, and the protection of high export taxes on those wools to overseas competitors producing luxury woollens.
In this era production from the now revived and expanding Englishcloth industry was in fact still much more urban than rural.
