Although assigned to the First Allied Airborne Army in Europe, the Division as a whole was not committed to action in the European theater.
One of its elements, the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment, which was assigned to the Division 1 March 1945, had previously seen combat in Italy, Southern France, and in the Ardennes.
The Division returned to the United States in August 1945 for redeployment to the Pacific but the end of the war precluded its use in combat in that theater.

 The 101st Airborne Division During WW II - Overview
The reserve division was disbanded 15 August 1942, and concurrently reconstituted in the Army of the United States as the 101st Airborne Division.
In the division's southern sector, it was to seize the la Barquette lock and destroy a highway bridge northwest of the town of Carentan and a railroad bridge further west.
On 1 March the new organizational structure for airborne divisions reached the 101st, and the 506th PIR became an organic element of the division.

When the 13th Infantry Division was established is a matter of some debate as various Army documents from the Korean War indicate that the division was formed in March 1950, though the KIMH indicates that the division was activated in Sinuiju in May 1950.
The division was committed in the Mungyong area on 25 July 1950.
From November 1950 until February 1951 the artillery regiment of the 13th Division was reconstituted and retrained in Manchuria.

Alerted along with the 17th Airborne Division for an assault against the Nazi forces at Wesel, Germany, the 13th's participation was cancelled for lack of enough aircraft to airlift both divisions.
The 13th Air-borne Division arrived at the New York Port of Embarkation on August 23, 1945 and was stationed at Fort Bragg.
On February 25, 1946, the division was inactivated, and its personnel transferred to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

 82nd Airborne Division During WW II - Overview
Despite the heavy losses the division was moved up to the front by motor and reinforced by the 39th Infantry Regiment of the 9th Infantry Division on July 12, 1943.
On 9 December 1943 Colonel Gavin was promoted to Brigadier General and assumed the duties of the Assistant Division Commander of the 82nd Airborne while Lt Col Herbert Batchellor assumed command of the 505th.
During the early months of 1944, units of the Division were moved to England as the allies were preparing for the assault on Western Europe.
