		On D-Day, June 6th 1944 the 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own) landed on Juno and Sword Beach in Normandy in their Sherman D-D swimming tanks; they were one of the first amphibious units to land on the beaches in support of 3 Division.
		Of the 40 Sherman tanks that embarked: 6 failed to launch, 34 launched at 5000 yards, 3 sank during the long swim: 31 reached the beaches of France and so began the liberation of France and europe from tyranny.
		On the cliff tops of Arromache on the 6th june, The Light Dragoons had the honour of being the only British Regiment on parade in a march past of over 15 nations, taking the salute were 17 Heads of State which included Her Majesty the Queen, President Bush and Chirac.
