The 14th Air Division was originally activated as the 14th Pursuit Wing in Hawaii on 1 Nov 1940.
It was redesignated the 14th Bombardment Wing (Heavy) in Feb 1943 and moved to England in Jun 1943.
The wing was redesignated the 14th Bombardment Wing (Heavy) in Jun 1945, returned to the United States in August and deactivated on 7 Nov 1945.

On 15 December 1970 the 1st Battalion was reassigned to the 25th Division and the 3rd Battalion, 14th Infantry was inactivated with its personnel and equipment reassigned to the 1st Battalion.
As the 25th Division returned to Schofield Barracks from Vietnam to resume its traditional mission of being the strategic reserve for the Pacific area the 4th Brigade along with the 3rd Battalion 14th Infantry was inactivated on 15 December 1970.
The 14th Infantry was at the capture of Manila during the War with Spain, symbolized by the castle, and in the fighting around the same city in 1899 during the Philippine Insurrection, indicated by the palm.

The 14th Sikhs were one of two battalions earmarked to join the 37th Brigade of the 14th Division to replace the 36th and 45th Sikhs, who had done magnificently in some recent fighting near Kut but had suffered such serious casualties that they had to be withdrawn from the front to reorganize.
The 14th Sikhs disembarked at Baghdad on the 17th of July and at the end of the month were ordered to Falluja, on the Euphrates, some forty miles west of Baghdad, to hold the left flank of General Maude's defences covering Baghdad.
The 17th Division was to gain contact and attack the enemy while the 7th Cavalry Brigade at Fat-ha was to move with utmost speed to reinforce the 11th Cavalry Brigade.

The 30th Division returned to the line on the night of October 15 and 16, the 59th Infantry Brigade relieving the 54th Infantry Brigade (27th Division), in the right sector of the II Corps from Vaux-Andigny to one-half kilometer west of St. Martin-Riviere, British Sixth Division on the right, 27th Division on the left.
The 30th Division was relieved by the British First Division on the night of October 19 and 20, and moved, October 20-23 to the vicinity of Tincourt-Boucly and Roisel.

The 14th AL Infantry Regiment was organized at Auburn on 1 Aug 1861 with men from Montgomery and Auburn and the counties of Chambers, Jackson, Randolph, and Tallapoosa.
Placed in Cadmus Wilcox' Brigade, Anderson's Division (with the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th Alabama regiments) it was on the line of the Rappahannock during the winter of 1862-63 and was in line of battle on the heights when Burnside was repulsed at Fredericksburg.
The winter of 1863/64 was passed in camp near Orange Court House, and the 14th was engaged at both The Wilderness and Spottsylvania.

Most divisions have 2 teams who have a legitimate shot at competing and there might be 2 or 3 teams from each league who have a realistic goal of winning the series and that's probably too liberal of a number.
