The 14th Street Bridge is a complex of three four-lane bridges that carry Interstate 395 and U.S. Route 1 traffic across the Potomac River, connecting Arlington, Virginia and Washington, D.C. It is named for the street that feeds into it on the DC end (carrying northbound US 1 off the bridge), 14th Street.
Adjacent to the three automobile bridges are two bridges for rail traffic, one for the Yellow Line of the Washington Metro and the other for a CSX Transportation rail line.
In July 1989, the 14th Street Bridge gained national notoriety when police officers, frustrated by inability to clean up the problem in DC's 14th Street red-light district, ordered a group of prostitutes to march across the bridge to Virginia.

Coming back north from Mount Vernon, you need to go under a group of four bridges which are roughly in one spot, the northernmost of which is the one you want (14th St.), then a bit past there double back to the surface and the bridge, when you come to a U-turn/split to the left.
It's a little easier to spot where you go off to 15th Street that way, but doesn't help Rich out because he'll be going the opposite way the first time.
If you stay on 14th going south and you pass the Holocaust Museum on your RIGHT, you've gone too far; go back a block and west to 15th; you want to pass with the Museum on your left on 15th, which curves around as described above and back to the bridge.
