As a triangular number, it is the sum of the first 17 integers, and also the sum of the first five factorials.
Since 153 = 1^3 + 5^3 + 3^3, it is a 3-narcissistic number, and it is a Friedman number since 153 = 3 * 51.
Evagrius Ponticus considered 153 to represent a harmonization of contrasts, since 153 = 100 + 28 + 25, with 100 representing a square, 28 a triangle and 25 a circle.

THE SYMBOLISM AND SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NUMBER 153
Certainly the number 153 is suggestive of the miracle that Jesus preformed in John 21:11.
Scholars who dabble in the mysticism of numbers suggest that the number 153, mentioned in our Scripture Lesson for the morning, represents all the varieties of fish in the world, which is to say, all the varieties of people in the world, all caught and held in the net of God's Grace.
In common with all the principal numbers of the cosmic temple, 1224 is divisible by both 6 and 9, and 1224 or 1225 may be divided by all the first 10 numerals.

It so happens that 153 is a "triangular" number (in the Pythagorean sense), being the sum of the first 17 integers, and it's also the sum of the first five factorials.
Since our modern decimal number system wasn't officially invented until much later, it might seem implausible that the number 153 was selected on the basis of any properties of its decimal digits.
Coincidentally, this cycle includes the decimal number 153, but it also includes 26 other numbers, for a total length of 27, which is 3 cubed (which the mystically minded should have no trouble associating with the Trinity).

A perfect square is the result of multiplying a whole number (technically known as a “integer”), by itself, hence 9 is a perfect square because it is 3x3,  16 is 4x4, but 12 is not a perfect square because no integer exists which when multiplied by itself gives the answer 12.
Numbers 8 and 9 resume the basic sequence at the key signature of 3 flats, but the actual sequence is reversed compared to the underlying sequence, which should be E flat major/C minor.
It turns out that the anomalous position of F sharp minor at number 7 can also be explained as a simple swap, by considering what the underlying sequence would have been if based on the sequence from 10-15 and extending forwards and backwards.

Misc Study: John 21: The 153 Fish and the Net
This number of generations remained in my mind, and it was while contemplating the meaning of the 153 fish in John 21:11, that the Holy Spirit enlightened me as to the meaning, not only of the 153 fish, but also the chapter itself.
Further examples of fish are that a fish was a symbol for Christianity used by the early church, it is to be seen today as a bumper-sticker, we have the Sea of humanity, and the church is thought to be represented by the constellation Pisces.
This number (153) can thus be interpreted to symbolise this: Jesus came following the first 76 generations of man and will return following the next 76 generations of man: at the 77th and 154th.

This is the number of Israel (Eze 4:5), being 13 x 30; as 65 (5x13) is the number of Ephraim (Isa 7:8); as 40 (5x8) is the number of Judah (Eze 4:6); and 70 (7x10) is the number of Jerusalem.
If six is the number of secular or human perfection, then 66 is a more emphatic expression of the same fact, and 666 is the concentrated expression of it; 666 is therefore the trinity of human perfection; the perfection of imperfection; the culmination of human pride in independence of God and opposition to His Christ.
