Dutch Forest Products' Trade in the Baltic: Trade until 1585
The Dutch revolt was a bigger threat to the tar trade, because the volume in the 1560s was not reached in the later part of this period.
Waynscot had a different story, because the highest quantities were shipped in the years before the Dutch revolt and the outburst of war severely harassed the trade and the yearly quantity of waynscot from 1569 to 1585 was less than one third of the average volume of the previous years.
In the 1560s the Dutch had a remarkable share of the waynscot deliveries to the west, but thereafter their relative share fell.

The 1560s saw the settling of a number of issues that had been plaguing Tudor England since the reign of Henry VIII.
This book is not only a historical text about the 1560s, it reads like a soap opera giving the reader windows into the public and private lives of the people.
Beyond that, the way it tells the story of the English people is entertaining and as good for curling up with on a rainy day as it is an important historical interpretation by a leader in the field.

The 1560s saw the expansion in height of this style of ruff.
Ruffs of the 1550s and 1560s were decorated primarily along the edges, with fl, gold, silver, or other contrasting embroidery.
As the 1560s progressed, the fashion for a ruff of fewer layers with more height and size to each layer was gaining ground.

 Dutch Sea Beggars
In the end a force of army-veterans managed to suppress them for a time, but in the latter half of the 1560s they resurfaced as the sea beggars.
Oranje was a stadhouder in the service of Spain who eventually turned against the empire in the 1560s and helped organize the Dutch struggle for independance.
In the last half of the 1560s he tried to form these Sea beggars into an effective and organized fighting force against Spain.

The 1560s: the apogee of Huguenot power?
In one area of Normandy, the élection of Bayeux, 40 per cent of the gentry were Protestant in the 1560s, although this number had fallen to about 13 per cent by 1597.
Nevertheless, with the exception of the battle of Dreux in December 1562, the Catholic army nearly always comprised a higher number of cavalry (and thus presumably nobles) than the Huguenots, as well as a larger number of foreign mercenaries.
The distance over which men, equipment and munitions had to be brought to mount operations, and the potential for harassment by the enemy, suggest something of the difficulties faced by the Catholic cause in the 1560s.

Rise of Feagh McHugh O"Byrne   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
The striking evolution of Feagh McHugh O'Byrne's position on the Irish A political stage, from that of local clan warlord in the 1560s to the status of regional Gaelic rebel leader in the 1580s, has been consistently ignored by historians.
Garrison government reached its zenith during the 1560s, 70s and 80s, and hence this paper will concentrate exclusively on Feagh's role during this decisive period in his career.
Throughout the 1560s Feagh continued to come to the government's attention as they proceeded to deal with his increasingly powerful father, Hugh McShane, leader of the Gabhal Raghnaill O'Byrnes.

demode: 1560s nuremberg dress   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
From what I've seen and read, it seems like circle skirts are more appropriate for German clothing in the first half of the century, like Mary of Hapsburg's dress.
But the skirts from the 1560s look very gored to me -- look at the shapes of the skirts in the Wiegel images (like this one) and in this full-length portrait by Neufchatel.
Finally, the top of the skirt in the main Neufchatel painting that I'm working from is definitely pleated, which says to me gored skirt rather than circle (circle would fit the waist relatively flat).

EH.Net Encyclopedia: Dutch Economy in the "Golden Age" (16th-17th Centuries)
By the early years of the sixteenth century the Portuguese began using Antwerp as an outlet for their Asian pepper and spice imports, and the Germans continued to bring their metal products (copper and silver) there.
For almost a hundred years Antwerp remained the commercial capital of northern Europe, until the religious and political events of the 1560s and 1570s intervened and the Dutch Revolt against Spanish rule toppled the commercial dominance of Antwerp and the southern provinces.
Within just a few years of the Fall of Antwerp (1585), scores of merchants and mostly Calvinist craftsmen fled the south for the relative security of the Northern Netherlands.
