 | | Commencing in the 2003-2004 academic year, a number of courses, most of them former 1000-level electives intended for English Literature majors, have become 600-level courses modified or designed--in the case of a few new ones, like "Sexuality and Representation" above--with the General Education, or non-Lit major, audience in mind. |
 | | The 600's, on the other hand, will emphasize the reading and critical discussion of particular literary traditions and types of writing (tragedy, satire, detective fiction, the literature of sports, science fiction, literature of immigration, and so on. |
 | | In this vein, Women and Literature, which has always been a challenging and probing course--not to mention one of our most popular!--fits much better into the 600 series than the introductory courses. |
