History of music - Facts, Information, and Encyclopedia Reference article
In European musical history, the era of ancient music began around 1500 BCE, ended with the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 CE, and was followed by the Early music era.
France developed a unique style of musical diction known as musique mesurée, used in secular chansons, with composers such as Guillaume Costeley and Claude Le Jeune prominent in the movement.
One of the most revolutionary movements in the era took place in Florence in the 1570s and 1580s, with the work of the Florentine Camerata, who ironically had a reactionary intent: dissatisfied with what they saw as contemporary musical depravities, their goal was to restore the music of the ancient Greeks.

Japan seems to have been connected to the Asian landmass during the last Ice Age until around 20,000 BCE, both because of glaciation of sea water and the concomitant lowering of sea level by about 80 to 100 meters.
Various influences have also been suggested from the direction of the Pacific Ocean, as various cultural and even genetic traits seem to point to partial Pacific origins, possibly in relation with the Austronesian expansion.
The first major naval contacts start with the Yayoi period in the 3rd century BCE, when rice-farming and metallurgy were introduced, from the continent.

The Gregorian calendar was adopted in Great Britain in 1752 although it meant that the country “lost” 11 days when the UK calendar was brought into line with the rest of Europe, which was mainly Catholic and had therefore adopted the Pope's ruling almost immediately.

A Brief History of the Circumpolar North - Trade
The third century BCE voyage of Pytheas the Greek, from Massalia, now Marseilles in France, to the northern edges of the known world, was motivated in part by a desire to know where tin and amber, valuable commodities both, came from.
Rather than commission a ship of his own, he is thought to have travelled with local traders on the various legs of the journey.
In the 1580s, the English sent out another series of unsuccessful voyages to the northeast and instead, turned their attention to the northwest with another series of commercially disappointing North-West Passage expeditions (1585-1587), under John Davis.
