Note: The duration given in the line below is the interval during which the occultation shadow sweeps across the Earth - please see the minute markers on the map to determine the approximate time for your location.
On 2005 May 12 UT, the 44 km diameter asteroid (161) Athor will occult a 11.5 mag star in the constellation Sagittarius for observers along a path across Australia.
In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 1.6 mag to 12.9 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 4.3 seconds.

 Alagasta Victory Snatched from the Jaws of Defeat
It was a relief to be able to use I-95 without fear of being shot or caught in a police dragnet following the recent arrests.
For Alagasta, I felt vindication after the miss I had at the 161 Athor occultation in Texas 11 nights earlier; that path also shifted a little north, but then I was near the predicted southern limit rather than the northern limit.
Alagasta was the 6th asteroidal occultation that I've observed this year, all video recorded.

OCCULTATION BY (161) ATHOR - 2005 FEB 17
On 2005 Feb 17 UT (before dawn on the 18th), the 44 km diameter asteroid (161) Athor will occult a 11.3 mag star in the constellation Sagittarius for observers along a path across W Australia.
In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 2.9 mag to 14.1 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 1.3 seconds.
