In 1678, Huygens, in a communication to the Academie des Science, propounded a wave theory of light propagated through 'aether,' and held that every point on a wave is itself a source of new waves.
Thus the connections which science establishes are "entirely arbitrary," and the "utmost effort of human reason is to reduce the principles, productive of natural phenomena, to a greater simplicity" (Hume 1738:30).

Several of the underlying fundamental science issues which can help advance the progress in these key areas and which are or can be addressed by the communities studying electron-induced processes at surfaces and interfaces are discussed briefly in chapter V together with other applications.
The future perspectives in the field of electron-driven processes must include interdisciplinary research between the different communities such as atomic molecular and optical physicists, surface physicists and chemists and scientists (such as radiation chemists) who are concerned with the fundamentals involved in the interaction of radiation with matter.

Zoroastrianism is mentioned rarely within science fiction, and when it is mentioned, it is usually only in passing.
Science fiction writers, aware of the precarious and possibly declining numbers of the Zoroastrian population, may prefer to avoid predicting the continued existence or significance of a such a group.
Disregarding Ellison's appropriation of Zarathustra's name in a philosophical scene, the only science fiction novels we are aware of with actual Zoroastrian characters are Harrison's Bill, the Galactic Hero (in which the title character is a Zoroastrian), and Stephenson's The Diamond Age (which sports a minor, unnamed Parsi banker).

Science’s materialist-reductionist-determinist philosophy led to the Human Genome Project, the multibillion-dollar program to map all of the genes.  Once this is accomplished, it is assumed that we can use that knowledge to repair or replace "defective" genes and in the process, realize Science’s mission of "controlling" the expression of an organism.
Since 1953, biologists have assumed that DNA "controls" life.  In multicellular animals, the organ that "controls" life is known as the brain.  Since genes are presumed to control cellular life, and genes are contained in the cell’s nucleus, the nucleus would be expected to be the equivalent of the cell’s "brain."
