  Eachtra Archaeological Projects
Archaeology is a very data intensive discipline and for every 20 people excavating a site there needs to be at least one person proficient in digitising and storing the data being gathered.
The press have summarised it by saying there is a crisis in Irish Archaeology whereas my initial reading indicates that the authors say there is a crisis in storage and curation of artefacts.
On behalf of the Society for Medieval Archaeology, The Discovery Programme joins with the Queen's University Belfast, University College Cork and NUI Galway, to organize the Summer Meeting in 2006.

 WMCAR - Historic Kecoughtan
Claiborne may have lived at the site until 1661, when he moved to a new plantation on the Pamunkey River near what is now West Point.
It is from this plantation land that the town of Hampton emerged near the end of the 17th century.
Archaeology is revealing the plantation's organization and evolution, architecture, and the socioeconomic status of its occupants.

Judith A. Bense, professor of archaeology at the University of West Florida, Pensacola, is the author of Archaeology of the Southeastern United States: Paleoindian to World War II, as well as articles in Journal of American Archaeology and Encyclopedia of North American Archaeology.
Is an excellent effort to document the history and archaeology of colonial Pensacola.

The premises of the Maritime Archaeology Unit in Galle were destroyed in the tsunami of 26 Dec, and the collections and equipment are all either lost or severely damaged.
Being a weekend, only one security guard was present: he was swept away but managed to catch hold of a tree, and survived with injuries.
* The Maritime Archaeology Unit and conservation laboratory were formed under the Mutual Heritage Centre, managed by the Central Cultural Fund in cooperation with the Amsterdam Historical Museum, the University of Amsterdam, and the Western Australian Museum (departments of Maritime Archaeology and Materials Conservation), and sponsored by the Netherlands Cultural Fund.

Of this number, just over half are pieces of church plate which are on loan to the Service from the churches which own them.
Instead of the rose and crown, a small crown and separate seeded rose were used, and a stamp resembling a pineapple replaced the town mark.
Following the coronation of Charles II in 1661, the goldsmiths’ used the marks of a castle over lion, a crown, a rose sprig and the maker’s mark, each enclosed within a plain shield.

Newton set out for Cambridge early in June 1661, matriculating to Trinity College.
He entered Trinity as a subsizar, a poor student who earned his keep by performing menial tasks for the fellows, fellow commoners (very rich students), and pensioners (the merely affluent).

 Assonet - Underwater Archaeology - Roman Villas
On the Albano and Nemi lakes naumachie were held which were spectacles introduced by Caesar in 46 BC, representing naval battles.
The latter were held as late as 1661 by Alexander VII.
Remains can frequently be seen of ancient structures which were scattered all over the area of the lake and the Albani Hills; in particular, some villas were built on the shores.

When the monastery of Durrow was dissolved in 1538 by the notorious Henry VIII, the manuscript passed into different hands until Henry Jones the Protestant Bishop of Meath, presented it to Trinity College in 1661.

to the throne of his forefathers, Sir John Musters, in the year 1661, removed the panelling from the dining-room of the Hall, and set it up in the Church, using it as a dado.
This dado consists of thirty or more panels carved in low relief with scrolls and masks, and are both beautiful and interesting.
