Science is used here in its broadest sense to encompass research and development, technical and research support, monitoring and data collection, review and interpretation of technical investigations, and assessments of health and environmental risks.
Science policy exists at the intersection between facts and values, often functioning in the area where scientific knowledge and understanding are incomplete.
Science is an integral part of regulatory decision making and its role is 2-fold: to improve the quantity and quality of scientific information and to enhance our ability to interpret the available scientific database for risk assessment, risk management, and risk communication decisions.

The new scientific methodology of wholistic science is based on the assumption that the observer participates in the process of observation.
With the scientific recognition of the inner life, the wholistic worldview permits a global view of the human being as a 'totality of body, soul and spirit.' Scientific discoveries of the interrelations of body, soul and spirit are reflected in a new educational paradigm.

The team already has grown flaw-riddled test diamonds up to 5 carats, but it is shooting to create top-notch diamonds on the scale of 100 carats.
However, says Steven E. Coe of De Beers, a coauthor of the Science report, the small diamonds already in hand from his team's new technique are sufficiently large for making electronic components for niche markets.

To understand science, students need ways to link their ideas, both with their own experiences and with other science ideas.
This position statement stems from our experiences with eighth graders doing a project in which they design houses for a desert climate; the project is the capstone activity for a semester-long physical science curriculum on heat and light energy.
In our case, since we wanted students to integrate ideas on heat and light, we developed design report templates which forced students to specify thermal properties of their houses without having to explain, for instance, the structural soundness of their house or its amenities.

Thus, for cases where there is either static or dynamic complexity, single-molecule observations have opened a new frontier of molecular science aimed at understanding the diversity of microscopic ways in which physical, chemical, and biological processes involving molecules actually take place.
The high stability of some aromatic hydrocarbons in crystals has allowed the creation of a novel room-temperature light source of single photons on demand based on a single-molecule emitter(9).
The advent of single-molecule spectroscopy is now having a broad interdisciplinary impact, from physical/analytical chemistry, to biophysics, the spectroscopy of defects in solids, materials science, quantum optics, and possibly even to future nanotechnology, where small numbers of molecules may be used to build molecular machines.

Herbals: Their Origin and Evolution: A Chapter in the History of Botany 1470-1670 Cambridge Science Classics   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Agnes Arber's Herbals (first published in 1912, much revised in 1938) stands as the major survey of the period 1470 to 1670 when botany evolved into a scientific discipline separate from herbalism, a development reflected in contemporary herbals.
The present volume in the Cambridge Science Classics series, while retaining her main text unaltered, supplements this with two of her later writings on herbals, provides a biographical introduction, greatly extends the bibliography and has annotations modifying the original text through later enquiry.
This added material will make this re-issue invaluable to librarians, historians of science, book-lovers and all with an interest in the early development of botany, pharmacy and book production, even if they already possess the long-unobtainable 1938 edition.
