The Dutch Raid on Ferryland, 1673 - History - Colony of Avalon
Between 1672 and 1674 Dutch raiders, smarting from their defeat by the English and the loss of their colonies in what is now New York, carried out a series of raids on the coast of America.
In 1673 four Dutch ships — the Green Wife, 40 guns; the Arms of Leyden, 40 guns; the Schacator, 36 guns; and the Unity, 36 guns — attacked Ferryland.
Aboard one of the Dutch vessels was Dudley Lovelace, Governor of New York, and 50 soldiers who had been captured by the Dutch earlier that year.

French Peoria in the Illinois Country, 1673-1846
These histories often ignore or only briefly touch upon the 150 years before that when time, when the Illinois Country was explored and settled by the French.
In commemoration of the 300th year of European settlement at Peoria, Judith Franke's book: French Peoria and the Illinois Couintry, 1673 - 1846, is concerned with the little-known first half of its history.
French interests were dominant at Peoria for well over a hundred years, from the time the first French explorers came up the Illinois River in 1673 until the first "American" settlers began to move into the area in about 1815.

Morrison, Virginia Indian Trade to 1673
This essay is to serve by way of preface to a rather close investigation of the Southern Indian Trade from 1673 to 1763.
About the month of June 1673 the Marquette party were at the mouth of the Ohio: there they found Indians armed with guns and supplied with European implements and glass.
We count 1673, from the circumstances of the American case, as a year appropriately chosen for the beginning of a closer survey of the Southern Indian Trade

At the very end of prehistory at the time of discovery by Marquette and Jolliet, St. Louis area was occupied predominantly by Indians of the Illini Confederacy, although the Missouri and Osage tribes hunted here and probably had an earlier claim to the vicinity.
From the earliest historical times the habitat of the Osage was among the hills and valleys of the Ozarks, south of the Missouri, in the present State of Missouri, and here they continued to dwell until their removal during the early part of the last century.
When Pere Marquette passed down the Mississippi, late in the month of June, 1673, he learned of the Osage, and on his map, prepared soon afterwards, indicated the villages of that tribe near a stream which was evidently the river bearing their tribal name.
