  Minolta 16mm Film
These 16mm cartridges would establish themselves as a world wide standard in short order, and remained so through to the mid-1970's when the last Minolta 16mm camera was produced, and on until at least 1993, when the last roll of factory made Minolta 16mm film was produced.
Unlike Minox film, bulk rolls of 16mm movie film were and still are easily available, so reloading a cartridge is as simple as cutting off an appropriate length, attaching it to the take up spool and reassembling the cartridge (all in a darkroom or changing bag, of course).
16mm film was and is available in single or double perforated versions (meaning a row of sprocket holes on one or both edges of the film strip), and either one can be successfully utilized in any of the Minolta 16mm cameras up to the Model MG-S of the 1970's.

 HARPER 16mm FILM PROJECTION SYSTEM
These films, to DIN standards, could be projected on machines built to SMPE specifications by revering the films laterally in the gate and then placing a reversing prism in front of projector lens to reverse the image to show correctly on the screen.
The process was then repeated for a second reel of 35mm film whereby the other 3mm track on the 16mm film received the second 35mm track and then the pictures of the second 35mm reel were printed into the frames spaces left blank by the first run.
On projection after running the film through it was not rewound but transferred from the take-up to the feed spool and run through the projector a second time when the second reel of film with its associated sound track would be reproduced.

 8mm Film Gauges
Double 8mm, called such because the film is 16mm's wide, with perforations that are identical in size and pitch to that of 16mm film....although with an extra perforation which is required since the 8mm frame is 1/4th that of a 16mm frame.
After processing, the film is slit down the middle yielding two lengths of 8mm width movie film, which are spliced together in their order of the first half in front, yielding a total length of projection footage in either 50ft(from 25ft spools), 100ft(from 50ft spools...now long discontinued in use), and 200ft (from 100ft spools).
In Span 16....the normal double perforated 16mm film is used....however the cameras are masked and modified to yield an image that runs nearly the full width of the 16mm film.....using the space between the sprocket holes...thus the frame height is smaller than a conventional 16mm frame...but much wider.

Flatbed Scanner Digital Telecine (FSDT) Project
The HP film scanner, to my regret, while a fine device for its intended purposes, is not usable for continuous scanning of movie film because of its hardware and software design, which "gobbles" the film into a dead-end bed of about 6 inches maximum length, rather than feeding the film into a pass-through mechanism.
Since 16mm film has four sprocket holes around each frame, we number the sprocket holes for each frame starting with sprocket hole 0 on the lower left of the frame image, and progressing counter-clockwise around the frame to sprocket holes 1 (lower right), 2 (upper right), and 3 (upper left).
Film is actually manufactured in two slightly different pitches (that is, dimension B in the table above) in order to accommodate contact printing from original film to print film around the radius of a sprocket wheel.

Shooting movie film still had several major drawbacks that were keeping it from being enjoyed by the average consumer.
By mounting the supply and take up sprockets on tiny springs rather than directly attached to their shafts, the film was protected from the sudden shock of movement each time the camera release was pressed.
This prevented tearing and nicking of the film sprockets especially in cold weather when the film would be more fragile and vulnerable to breakage.
