The history of literature is the historical development of writings in prose or poetry which attempt to provide entertainment, enlightenment, or instruction to the reader/hearer/observer, as well as the development of the literary techniques used in the communication of these pieces.
Egyptian literature was not included in early studies because the writings of Ancient Egypt were not translated into European languages until the 19th century when the Rosetta stone was deciphered.
Among the innovations of Arabic literature was Ibn Khaldun's perspective on chronicling past events—by fully rejecting supernatural explanations, Khaldun essentially invented the scientific or sociological approach to history.

The law establishing the coat of arms was officially adopted in 1931, refining a basic design (the grapevines and motto) first used in 1711.
The official description called for "A shield of rococo design of white field, having in the center three grape vines, supported and bearing fruit." The grapevines represent the three colonies, Saybrook, New Haven, and Connecticut, which merged together to form the state of Connecticut.

I cannot recall whether Virgil is included, but the most elaborate recent book I know on puns in Latin literature is Frederick Ahl, Metaformations: Soundplay and Wordplay in Ovid and other Classical Poets (Cornell Univ. Press, 1985).
Personally, I was extremely sceptical of some of Ahl's assertions, and it is very hard to imagine that the Romans really created puns when one word had a short vowel and the other a long vowel.
But when this distinction was one settled, it was very natural for all men of sense to agree in it." (Joseph Addison, Spectator no. 61, May 10, 1711) As I remarked, too much neo-classical literature may have affected my literary taste.
