truth in science   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Science attempts to make a sharp distinction between the world out there, which is real and independent of us, and the individual's thoughts and feelings, which are internal and inconstant and to be explained eventually in terms of outside realities.
The social sciences do not have the precision of the physical sciences, of course, and the part played by chance and irreversible processes is being increasingly recognized in all areas of science.
Science does bring great operational efficiency, and its findings cannot be called myths in the sense understood in anthropology or literary criticism.

 philscience
A lot of work was done in the philosophy of science at the beginning of the 20th century because physics had pushed so far into the frontiers of theoretical explanation that normal ways of thinking had to be set aside.
In normal science, the theories are accepted without question, and most research is intent on finding different applications for the accepted theory.
Kuhn's philosophy was quite different from the previous approach which stated that science made progress by gradually building on previous work.

 Statement of Larry Todd
I am pleased to be here today to present the views of the Department of the Interior (Department) regarding H.R. 1711, which would authorize assistance to be provided to the State of New Mexico for the development of comprehensive State water plans, and for other purposes.
In fact, technical assistance, water resources mapping, and comprehensive groundwater studies similar to those proposed in H.R. 1711 have been carried out in other States, generally under the authority of the USGS Cooperative Water Program, which is a long-standing cost-sharing program using Federal and State funds.
As the nation’s largest water, earth, biological science, and civilian mapping agency, USGS conducts the most extensive groundwater and surface water investigations in the nation in cooperation with state and local partners.

 Philosophy of Science
Philosophy of Science is the branch of philosophy which studies the philosophical foundations, presumptions and implications of science both of the natural sciences like physics and biology and the social sciences such as psychology and economics.
The Philosophy of Science deals with questions concerning the nature of scientific theorising and scientific practice: issues concern how to describe scientific method and the nature of scientific development, the justification of scientific knowledge and the aims of science, the objectivity of science and the interconnectedness of these issues.
A central concept in the philosophy of science is empiricism, or dependence on evidence.

His chiropractic philosophy was subsequently altered, removing the concept of "spirit" from Innate and eliminating Auto-suggestion, the role of mind over matter, as a cause of disease.
Over the last 80 years, the profession has experienced an undercurrent effort to align chiropractic with allopathic science, for biologists have obviously made great strides in understanding the mechanisms of life.
Based upon this flow, contemporary biomedical thought is preoccupied with the concept of genetic determinism, the belief that an organism’s expression is primarily under the "control" of its genes.

 Spectator, March 24, 1711
At this time, and until the establishment of New Style, from 1752, the legal year began in England on the 25th of March, while legally in Scotland, and by common usage throughout the whole kingdom, the customary year began on the 1st of January.
But we have seen letters in it dated in a way often adopted to avoid confusion (1710-11) which gave both the legal and the customary reckoning.
March 24 being the last day of the legal year 1710, in the following papers, until December 31, the year is 1711 both by law and custom.

 Liaoning Province China Fossils
According to the January 12, 2001 issue of the prestigious journal Science, "Paleontologists are flocking to China, which has beefed up its support of the field to take advantage of troves of superbly preserved specimens".
Fossils unearthed in Liaoning Province, for example, may help end one of the most high-powered debates in paleontology--whether birds evolved from dinosaurs.Phenomenal finds in the past few years in Liaoning include Liaoxiornis delicatus the smallest bird known from the Mesozoic, and Hyphalosaurus sinohydrosaurus (Nature 401, 262, 1999) a long-necked diapsid reptile.
The famous bird, Confuciusornis sanctus, was described in 1995 from three partial skeletons, but Chinese workers have discovered many new and complete specimens that show almost all aspects of the skeletal anatomy and much of the plumage.
