Cabinda, State of- Cabinda is a small Angolan enclave separated from the rest of the country by a strip of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
California, Free State of- During the 18th and early 19th centuries, the Spanish missions of California were replaced by a small group of landowners, descended from soldiers, as the dominant force in the neglected colony.
The Free State was briefly occupied by a biker gang which turned Christiania into a red light district in the late 1970s, although they were expelled by the inhabitants.

Three major research universities--Duke University in Durham, North Carolina State University in Raleigh, and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill--are both the base and the capstone of the Research Triangle Park.

The floor plan of the structure is rectangular (6.4 x 3.6 m); the dark rectangular stain projecting from the west wall may represent a stick-and-mud fireplace modeled after contemporary French construction.

During the summer of 1711, the inhabitants of North Carolina were far too plagued with rebellion, drought, and disease to observe the actions of the Indians closely.
As these plans were maturing, the ever adventurous John Lawson persuaded Christopher Von Graffenried, leader of the Swiss and Palatine colonists at New Bern, and Christopher Gale, receiver-general of the colony (his friend and neighbor at Bath), to accompany him on an exploring trip up the Neuse.
Tradition states that the home of John Porter Jr., at the head of Chocowinity Bay on the Pamlico, was among the first houses attacked, and that Porter and Dr. Patrick Maule (who was visiting him at the time) were able to beat off the Indians and escape with the women and children in a boat.

Pacheco and State Rep. James Marzilli, D-Middlesex, introduced a bill to increase the state's current minimum wage from $6.75 per hour to $7.50 per hour in 2006, $8.25 per hour in 2007 and index the minimum wage to the Consumer Price Index thereafter.
