  BAROQUE MUSIC DEFINED
Later, during the early-to-mid 1900s, the term baroque was applied by association to music of the 17th and early 18th century, and today the term baroque has come to refer to a very clearly definable type or genre of music which originated, broadly speaking, around 1600 and came to fruition between 1700 and 1750.
Many a composer's fortunes rose or fell with the status accorded to music at the court in which he was serving, and composer-musicians would try to seek a position in a city or court where music was known, for the time being anyway, to be thriving under the patronage of an enthusiastic king or prince.
Music which is melodious yet so constructed as to reflect the "perfect order" of the universe: that is the essence of the baroque.

Baroque Composers — Overview, individual biographies
An underlying, all-pervading and inspirational influence on Italian baroque music was provided by its violin-makers, mainly centered in Cremona - the Amati family in the 16th and 17th centuries, the Guarneri and Stradivari families in the 17th and 18th.
His performance of sacred music, instrumental and vocal, made Lübeck a place of pilgrimage for musicians anxious to advance in their art, and the young Sebastian Bach himself traveled two hundred miles to hear them and to sit at the feet of the Master.
As the 18th century progressed, European music was also becoming increasingly familiar in the United States, a particularly enthusiastic exponent being Thomas Jefferson, politician, diplomat, foreign minister to France, vice president under John Adams, two-term president of the United States, and of course, author of the Declaration of Independence.

From its founding in 1714 by a small band of sea captains (of the original thirty-three benefactors, twenty-nine were seafarers from Marblehead), until the present day, the rich historical tapestry of St. Michael's has been intimately interwoven with the history of both Marblehead and the country.
The present tracker organ dates from 1974, and, although it is an entirely new instrument, it is housed in the restored case from the 1833 Hook organ.

In music of the Renaissance, the imitation of the human voice was something which instrumentalists were taught to aspire to.
This rejection of the use of vibrato in modern performances of 'early music' has led to a lot of dry, rather dull performances that find an audience that 'feels' it is 'early' because it is not what they believe to be 'modern', that is, to include the use of 'vibrato'.

 Lecture 13: Classical Music I
Beethoven in particular was almost belligerent about writing music as he saw fit and not according to the dictates of a commercial publisher.
The lack of a viable new style, then, was a sad fact of musical life for a period of some 50 years or so (approximately between the 1720s and the 1770s) before the flowering of the Classical style.
It was filled with 2-note patterns that were supposed to sound like little sighs, and the music abruptly changed emotions, swerving from shocking and violent to quiet and sentimental.

Bennink is one of the unfortunately rare musicians whose abilities and interests span the music's entire spectrum, from Dixieland to free.
What ultimately makes Bennink special is his manifest love for the music, a love that inclines him to tear down the cardboard walls that too often separate different schools of jazz.
Both Reijseger and Moore share Bennink's extraordinarily wide range of musical interests, to say nothing of his absurdist sense of humor.
