PERSIAN LITERATURE [Persian literature] literary writings in the Persian language, nearly all of it written in the area traditionally known as Persia, now Iran.
Pre-Islamic Persian literature consists of religious texts, the most notable of which is the Avesta, a collection of liturgic fragments, and the later Pahlavi writing of the Sassanian period.
At the heart of the Golden Age of Persian literature were the mystic and didactic works of Sadi and Jalal ad-Din Rumi.

English Literature Program at Pitt   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Commencing in the 2003-2004 academic year, a number of courses, most of them former 1000-level electives intended for English Literature majors, have become 600-level courses modified or designed--in the case of a few new ones, like "Sexuality and Representation" above--with the General Education, or non-Lit major, audience in mind.
The 600's, on the other hand, will emphasize the reading and critical discussion of particular literary traditions and types of writing (tragedy, satire, detective fiction, the literature of sports, science fiction, literature of immigration, and so on.
In this vein, Women and Literature, which has always been a challenging and probing course--not to mention one of our most popular!--fits much better into the 600 series than the introductory courses.

Literary Encyclopedia: German Baroque Literature   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Deutsche Barockliteratur [German Baroque literature] is used as a convenient if controversial label to designate literature between the age of the Reformation and the Enlightenment, covering roughly 150 years from the 1570s to the 1720s.
Moreover, German Baroque literature was part of the European tradition, and as such comprised a significant body of Neo-Latin writings and foreign language translations, alongside original works in German.
The literature of the age is less impressive than the achievements in the pictorial arts, and recently the tendency has been to avoid the fluid term “German Baroque” altogether.

Fair Exotics: Xenophobic Subjects in British Literature, 1720-1850 Criticism - Find Articles
Fair Exotics: Xenophobic Subjects in British Literature, 1720-1850, by Rajani Sudan.
Rajani Sudan's Fair Exotics: Xenophobic Subjects in British Literature, 1720-1850 insightfully extends a growing body of criticism that examines the shaping force ideas about the Other (national, colonial, gendered) exerts on British literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, particularly Daniel Defoe, Samuel Johnson, Thomas De Quincey, Mary Wollstonecraft, Mary Shelley and Charlotte Bronte.
Somewhat less successfully, the book participates in (without discussing) another movement that seeks to extend the romantic period back into the eighteenth century, by arguing that romantic patterns of imagining the colonial and gendered other--and by extension the subject--can be traced back to Robinson Crusoe.
