  A Gazetteer of the State of Massachusetts
The statistics of this edition are from the State census for 1885 (the last volume of which was issued in June of the present year) or from later sources, as, in part, from the clerks of the towns and cities.
The bowlders which cover the surface of the State were deposited in the glacial period, marks of which may be distinctly traced in the scratching of the ledges from the shore of the ocean to the summit of the mountains.
In the early settlement of the State, the people were greatly annoyed by the depredations of the fl and brown bear and the wolf, which ranged the deep forests, and often came by night to prey upon the cattle in the clearings.

The basic objection to the present United States position of willingness to consider a separate outer space agreement appears to rest primarily on the argument that discussion of a separate agreement might involve the United States, to its tactical disadvantage, in a public airing of the satellite reconnaissance issue.
The United States Delegation to the UN Legal Subcommittee on Outer Space recommended in its report that a further approach be made to the Soviets on questions of outer space law prior to the September 1963 session of the parent UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

Crawford County officials declared a state of emergency due to the high water and some people had to be evacuated from their homes by boat as both French and Cussewago creeks flooded.
According to the latest accounting from the state Comptroller’s Office, HSCA is heading toward a deficit between $6 million and $14 million in the 2004-05 fiscal year—this for a program that operates annually on $50 million to $60 million for brownfield remediation, toxic emergencies and remediation of contaminated sites.
The advisory board, comprised of cabinet secretaries, state legislators and citizens, has a mission to monitor trends and issues of concern to the Commonwealth, gather input from state and local officials and citizens and develop reports and recommendations for the Governor and the Legislature on improved state policies and programs.

In New York State, for example, where partisan organization for local elections was perhaps most thoroughly developed, nominating caucuses typically were held on the Saturday evening preceding the Tuesday election, leaving the parties and candidates only Monday and election day (overt politicking was taboo on the Sabbath) to make their pitch.
Many of the men examined by state legislative committees inquiring into disputed elections testified that they did not examine their tickets, and that they did not know the names of the men they had voted for.
Maryland is one of the few states for which a good series of election records have been found and studied, and the results (high voter turnouts and consistently partisan electoral behavior) do not support the dominant interpretation.
