Notwithstanding his fame and importance during the years of 1750 through 1775, he has been all but forgotten because he became a Loyalist when he found himself unable to support the war for independence from Britain.
Zubly was born Hans Joachim Züblin, in St. Gall, Switzerland, on August 27, 1724.
His father, David Züblin, was a weaver who immigrated to South Carolina in 1736 while Zubly remained in St. Gall to continue his education.

This coin is an Irish George I halfpenny struck in 1724 under license by by William Wood.
There is some pitting of the surface in the legend in front of the king's face - this is probably from a poorly prepared flan, but may be the result of some light corrosion.
There is not much significance attached to the reverse legend varieties, except by specialist in the series, and little difference in value despite the continuous legend variety being quite a lot more difficult to obtain.
