  Natural Science 1740
The Natural Science courses at York University are designed for students who are not intending to become professionally involved in science.
However, science is a part of everyone's day to day life, and as such, it is important to become familiar to a certain extent with the scientific method and outlook and to be cognizant of some of the achievements of scientific thought.
Collaboration with colleagues on a problem is an essential part of science, but to claim credit for work performed by others is both unethical and unacceptable.

Dartmouth Women In Science Project | Funding
We had already found that some science faculty members who were initially skeptical that first year students could be involved in any meaningful way in research projects had, through talking with their own colleagues and observing their behavior, found ways to involve first year students in research.
Students affiliated with the Project are more likely to declare a major in the sciences and the total number and percentage of women declaring majors in science and engineering increased from a low of 12% in 1990 to a projected 24% for the class graduating in June 1997.
In addition to the possible effects of dissemination about the Women in Science Project at conferences, through published articles and reports, and through invited presentations at other institutions, we know of at least two institutions where it is clear that the Project has had a significant effect on the development of similar programs.

Science is nothing but trained and organized common sense differing from the latter only as a veteran may differ from a raw recruit: and its methods differ from those of common sense only as far as the guardsman's cut and thrust differ from the manner in which a savage wields his club.
Science is facts; just as houses are made of stone, so is science made of facts; but a pile of stones is not a house, and a collection of facts is not necessarily science.
Poetry is opposed to science, and prose to meter.

Barriers to Women in Academic Science and Engineering
There are two types of men in science with respect to women: (1) those who follow the male model; with negative consequences for women; and (2) those who are aware of the deleterious effect of the male model on women and who attempt to avert its worst consequences for their female advisees.
She presumed that the universalistic spirit of science, rather than an environment that suppresses the expression of gender differences, was responsible for the paucity of complaints.
While the science being done in the department or by a faculty member often initiated a candidates interest in the school; the emotional gratification of the interview process together with a preference for a collegial research environment, influenced the candidates final decision.

The Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Connecticut - 1740's Jonathan Edwards and the Great Awakening
This trend promoted the introduction of math, science, law, and medicine into the college curriculums, which had been primarily focused upon theology and ancient languages during the 1720s.[1] Emphasis upon economic success, political developments, and rational thought pre-empted concerns for the soul and instilled a confidence in salvation despite a laxity of morals.
In the fall of 1740, George Whitefield, a twenty-six-year-old evangelist who had stirred emotions throughout England, toured the seaboard of the Connecticut Valley and amplified the spirit of the Awakening.
In response to Whitefield's success in arousing sinners and instilling a concern for salvation, the Eastern Consociation of the County of Fairfield met on October 7, 1740 and voted to invite Whitefield to preach in several towns within the district.

Political science is the study of government (the state) and the structure and activities of the state.
is that branch of the science of a statesman concerned with "preserving the system of natural liberty by artfully studying the linkages between the economy and the state." This is a moral science concerned with the greater good.
Public administration had begun as a field within political science, but gradually separate departments were developed to "train the civil servants who were charged with implementing the policies decreed by the legislatures." Much intellectual content was borrowed from the growing field of management science (in business colleges) beginning in the 1920s.

 Man of Science
Benjamin Franklin had diligently studied the science of his day and had read all the scientific writings he could obtain.
Tanford states, "There is no evidence that Franklin realized, at least initiatially, that he was making a solid, lasting contribution to the foundation of physics or that he could foresee the revolution that electricity would subsequently create." (Tanford, 19).
Although he was urged by his friends to use this return journey to America to revise his memoirs, Franklin used the time for science, writing a pamphlet on "Cause and Cure of Smoky Chimneys." Until his death, Benjamin Franklin continued to explore and wonder about the world around him.
