 The Academy of Ancient Music
In short, we have no idea when Bach wrote the cantata, beyond the fact that the music is too sophisticated for it to be a very early work, and that the text suggests it was intended for performance in the spring.
The aria is anexquisite piece of musical irony: the poet commands the instruments to stop playing, but Bach gives his words the lengthiest, most complex and most beautiful setting possible, using a favourite ‘sleep’ motif in siciliano rhythm, gently accompanied by solo oboe d’amore and violin with continuo.
In the next recitative the poet starts to argue in favour of music, though he suddenly and inexplicably changes tack to introduce an expressive and elaborate funeral aria with flute obbligato, similar in mood and scoring to the Benedictus of the Mass in B minor.

 Baroque Music - Part Two
The principal legacy of Baroque music is, of course, the music itself.
But most fell by the wayside: the music of Monteverdi and Purcell, of Couperin and Rameau, and of so many others was too dependent for their musical effect on the colors and techniques of Baroque performance to survive the "translation" to performance on later instruments played with later techniques.
A musical form in which a theme is presented then repeated many times in different guises created by the transformation of elements such as rhythm, tempo, harmony, and accompaniment.

Explanation of The Messiah by George Frederic Handel   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
On the 13th April, 1742, the music hall in Dublin resounded to the applause of an enthusiastic audience.
The music is thrilling, rising to heights of drama and pathos that stir to the innermost being those who listen to it.
But, unfortunately, the very grandeur of the music tends to overshadow the grand message and significant beauty of the words that are sung, so that those who sing, as well as those who listen, have little true comprehension of the great things of which they tell.

There are references to music sung in Wales in the 6th C. writings of the monk Gildas when he criticized the Welsh Bards for singing court "praise-songs" instead of religious songs.
The music described by Gildas was music of the court.

Bach's first music lessons were on the violin, with his father as instructor.
In addition, special music was required on festive days of the church year and for other occasions such as funerals and installations.
He dedicated it to Frederick with the words, "A sovereign admired in music as in all other sciences of war and peace." Bach's last work was the Art of the Fugue, in which he demonstrated the complete possibilities of the fugal and canonic forms.

The young Arne was keen on the opera and legend has it that he smuggled himself into London's Italian Opera dressed as a liveryman.
Whatever, he met and became friends with the composer Michael Festing at the opera who taught him the violin and took him to various musical performances.
His father was keen that he should follow the law and he was articled to a solicitor for three years after leaving Eton but was finally persuaded, probably by Festing, that he should follow music as a career.

Philipp Joseph Frick, musician and composer, is noted in the major musical lexicons as a performer on the glass harmonica, a curious musical instrument which captured audiences all over Europe in the eighteenth century.
From this whole statement it appears that - by his musical talent (which was serviceable to him merely as a cover, whilst searching for the Light until it was communicated) - he gained sufficient to have lived now in ease, had he not been deprived at times (as in Russia) of all he possessed.
Witnesses were Joseph Ulbrech and Joseph Schmittbauer, respectively choir leader and director of music at the court of the Margrave August Georg.

However, I believe his article on "Worship at the 31st General Assembly" is both disappointing and misses the mark on some key matters.
Because musical expression was at the heart of the article, I did a detailed study of all of the songs sung both congregationally and as special music at General Assembly and by my calculations the results show a very different summary than Terry Johnson gave in his article.
I discovered that of the 26 hymns that we sang, 13 (i.e., 50 percent) had words that are in the Trinity Hymnal; 20 (i.e., 77 percent) had words written before 1875; and, 16 (i.e., 62 percent) had tunes that were written after 1935.

The final part is yet to be enacted in the earth when the Lord returns to take up his great power and to reign for God to the wellbeing of man. Christadelphians delight in this theme, and will be pleased to share that pleasure with others who may be interested.
