Connectionism, Confusion, and Cognitive Science   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
In cognitive science, an algorithm is viewed by many researchers not only as a fundamentally important theoretical notion, but also as a practical goal for models-as-explanations.
The same that is required of any modelers in cognitive science: they must provide evidence that the functional architecture for their networks is functionally equivalent to that of the systems they model.
Unfortunately, the theories of cognitive science must meet additional criteria, which require connectionists to exert a great deal more effort relating the specific properties of their networks to the implementational or architectural properties of the systems which provide them "neuronal inspiration".

During this time period, many girls lose interest in mathematics and science and also lose confidence in their ability to succeed in these areas.
In order to retain more women in mathematics, science, and technology, we must work to reduce this gap and encourage all students to persevere and succeed in mathematics and science.

Estimating Frequencies of DNA Patterns by Counting A standard way to estimate frequency is to count occurrences in a random sample of the appropriate population and then use classical statistical formulas to place upper and lower confidence limits on the estimate.
Because estimates used in forensic science should avoid placing undue weight on incriminating evidence, an upper confidence limit of the frequency should be used in court.
