It is the period of St. Francis, the poetry of Dante, the art of Giotto and the emergence of woman as ideal.

 Hume's Aesthetics
David Hume's views on aesthetic theory and the philosophy of art are to be found in his work on moral theory and in several essays.
Although there is a tendency to emphasize the two essays devoted to art, “Of the Standard of Taste” and “Of Tragedy,” his views on art and aesthetic judgment are intimately connected to his moral philosophy and theories of human thought and emotion.
But in many orders of beauty, particularly those of the finer arts, it is requisite to employ much reasoning, in order to feel the proper sentiment; and a false relish may frequently be corrected by argument and reflection.

Fly Fishing History: Bowlker, The Art of Angling
he Art of Angling was the standard textbook of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and ran to at least a dozen editions.
We aren't quite sure of the date of publication of the first edition, hence the circa, but it is a slim volume written in the didactic style that is typical of early fishing manuals.
Continuing the grand tradition of early fishing texts, The Art ranges widely for such a compact volume and deals with almost every type of fishing - where fly fishing is concerned, there is a great deal on choice of tackle, but relatively little on tactics.

Kant, Immanuel -- Aesthetics [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
Art involves some kind of practical ability, irreducible to determinate concepts, which is distinct from a mere comprehension of something.
Thus, while all fine art is a beautiful 'presentation' of an object (sect.48), this partly obscures the fact that genius is involved in the original creation of the object to be presented.
According to the manner of presentation, he divides all fine arts into the arts of speech (especially poetry, which Kant ranks the highest of the arts), the arts of visual form (sculpture, architecture and painting), and the arts involving a play of sensible tones (music).

The movie is self-explanatory, the art of the superb director Carlos Saura is apparent, his collaboration with Storaro seamless.
The film is a cauldron with a paella of thoughts, talk and visuals about art, with interspersed sketches, drawings, engravings, still paintings, paintings that move and take on life, homages to Velasquez (both by the film and by Goya), "tableaux vivants," politics, and the long affair between Goya and the love of his life.
His record is sublime, from realistic to symbolic or allegorical political films (during the years of that other Francisco, dictator Franco), to poetic works on love, dance and music (within dramas) which blend traditions and experimentation, and more.
