Finnish music in a nutshell — Virtual Finland
Bourgeois musical life emerged in the late 18th century, prompting the establishment of public concerts: the Academic Capell [orchestra] (1747) and the Turku Musical Society (1790) were founded in Turku.
In music, however, this heritage was not always used in naïve illustrations of national subjects or in the use of folk tunes per se.
The Finnish Music Quarterly, a music periodical in English, was launched in 1985, and now has a circulation of 4,000, being distributed to leading figures and institutions in the field of music worldwide.

Baroque Composers — Overview, individual biographies
An underlying, all-pervading and inspirational influence on Italian baroque music was provided by its violin-makers, mainly centered in Cremona - the Amati family in the 16th and 17th centuries, the Guarneri and Stradivari families in the 17th and 18th.
English musical life during the first half of the 1700s was dominated by the giant figure of Handel, who had settled in London in 1712; here once again, royalty had played its influential part.
As the 18th century progressed, European music was also becoming increasingly familiar in the United States, a particularly enthusiastic exponent being Thomas Jefferson, politician, diplomat, foreign minister to France, vice president under John Adams, two-term president of the United States, and of course, author of the Declaration of Independence.

contemporâneas/contemporáneas: Segunda moral: Leon Botstein dixit (e 2)
Pessimistic diagnoses regarding the health of the inherited culture of high-art music in the twentieth century became widespread after 1975 and coincided with the rise of a current of neconservatism and cultural nostalgia.
The decline of interest in classical music was viewed as a sign of debased cultural standards; even early- twentieth-century modernism once shunned by previous cultural conservatives was held up as superior and normative in terms of aesthetic quality and ethical and cultural value.
But the late-twentieth-century neoconservative account of a decline in cultural standards in musical life represents a dubious nostalgia: the sense that a golden age in music has passed, and with it truly great singers, conductors, and instrumentalists (not to speak of composers), has helped undermine even the museum function of concert life.

 CLASSICAL MUSIC ARCHIVES: Boccherini Biography
"Papa" Haydn's musical influence on Boccherini was to become so pervasive that music lovers at that time proclaimed Boccherini to be "the wife of Haydn." At the same time, it is Boccherini's beautiful sense of sound and texture, and relatively less interest in thematic material as an end unto itself, that distintinguishes him from Haydn.
His musical essence being more about sound than ideas, we might consider Boccherini as the impressionist of his era.
The same year, 1747, he was sent to Rome to perfect his technique and, after a year's study, returned to his native Lucca as a virtuoso cellist.
