Its fragmentary remains, along with those of Fort Wimberly, are the oldest architectural fabric surviving in Georgia.
At the northeastern corner of downtown Savannah stand the remains of Fort Savannah (later renamed Fort Wayne), whose brick walls and buttresses were erected by the British in 1779 to replace early colonial earthworks.
Wild Heron Plantation House, possibly erected as early as 1756, follows a similar form, though it is two rooms deep.

Hunter House is one of the finest examples of Georgian Colonial architecture from Newport's "golden age" in the mid-18th century.
The north half of Hunter House was constructed between 1748 and 1754 by Jonathon Nichols, Jr., a prosperous merchant and colonial deputy.
After his death in 1756, the property was sold to Colonel Joseph Wanton, Jr., who was also a deputy governor of the colony and a merchant.

Influenced by the monumental architecture of ancient Greece (9th through 4th century B.C.E.) and Rome (1st century B.C.E. through 5th century C.E.), and the buildings from the Renaissance (early 15th century to early 17th century), and Baroque (17th century to mid-18th century) periods in Europe.
In 1756 she married a free man of African heritage, Abijah Prince, and they lived in a house built on land at the eastern end of the Wells' homelot.

 Giovanni Battista Piranesi
During a visit (1740) to Rome, which was then emerging as the center of European Neoclassicism, Piranesi began his lifelong obsession with the visual diversity of the city's architecture.
Piranesi then began to etch views of Roman architecture that reflected his deeply felt emotional response to the surviving remnants of ancient grandeur.
Equally stimulating are the superb architectural fantasies depicted in his Carceri d'Invenzione (Imaginary Prisons, begun c.1745, reworked 1761).

At the same time, a considerable part of Danish architecture is regionally anchored, particularly housing, which is developing the dense, low concept of the 1970s into a contemporary style.
During the Renaissance, Danish architecture was dominated by the building of manor houses such as the 16th century Hesselagergaard and Egeskov, both on Funen.
In both castles the actual architectural expression, the decorative finish, was in the preferred Dutch Renaissance style, with lavish sandstone ornamentation on a red brick background.

Schifferstadt, the oldest known house on Frederick still standing, was completed in 1756.
Schifferstadt's sandstone walls are two feet thick and its hand-hewn beams are pinned together with wodden pegs.
