 ART4NET - William Blake
William Blake was born in 1757, the third son of a London hosier.
Apart from a brief idyllic sojourn to Felpham, West Sussex, Blake lived in or near to London, a city which dominates much of his work, whether as the nightmare 'London' of the Songs of Experience, or the London which Blake saw as the 'New Jerusalem', the kingdom of God on earth.
What did not change also was Blake's passionate commitment to a vision of Christianity revisioned, and to a Spiritual, Psychological, Political and Sexual Renaissance, brought about by discarding the narrow moralising and conventionality of orthodox Christianity, and his vision of Albion reborn, in Everyman and in England.

As can be seen from illustrations and from the bas-reliefs of Borobudur and Prambanan, the vigorous character of Hindu dancing was transformed by the Javanese into an individual style, corresponding,, to their own ideas, and during the last centuries of the Hindu-Javanese period a special style for the topeng dance crystallized.
As in so many other branches of art, the political troubles of the 15th and 16th centuries had a most unfortunate effect upon the dance.
This also explain; why, after the partition of the kingdom of Mataram into three vassal states(1755 and 1757) the art of dancing evolved in quite a different fashion at the courts of Djokjakara and Surakarta respectively.

 William Blake
Blake draws on a highly powerful, but essentially personal, mythological system of his own devising, but one that also draws on a variety of mythological, poetic and philosophical sources.
Blake is a revolutionary and visionary artist and poet, and his work represented a decisively new direction in the course of English Poetry and the Visual Arts.
Blake's works range from the deceptively simple and lyrical style of the Songs of Innocence and Experience, through speculative works such as The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, to the highly elaborate visionary and apocalyptic style of America, The Four Zoas, Milton and The Book of Urizen.
