 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: German Literature
Literature as an art suffered by being pressed into the service of religious controversy; it became polemic or didactic, and its prevailing form was prose.
Its effect on the German language was enormous; the dialect in which it is written, a Middle German dialect used in the chancery of Upper Saxony, became gradually the norm for both Protestant and Catholic writers, and is thus the basis of the modern literary German.
Literature was devoid of originality and substance; the formal side absorbed the chief attention of the writers.

 Polish Literature in English Translation
Because there is some variation in how "literature" is defined, and because the issue of who is "Polish" is one that could be hotly contested, there may be some disagreements both among browsers of this list and between browsers and me about the appropriate solutions to these issues.
Along with the prose fiction, playscripts, and poems that represent the three primary genres of writing that have tended to be identified with "literature" over the past two centuries, I've included letters, diaries, and personal essays, both by people with an established literary reputation and by those who didn't necessarily intend their writing for publication.
The 1791 Constitution, as well as the lyrics to major patriotic and religious hymns and songs, are also on the list; however, at this point scientific or philosophical treatises are not.

Born in 1791 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, Anne Lister authored a remarkable series of diaries that she kept from 1817 to 1840.
From its beginning, the nineteenth century in England had a purposeful homosexual literature of considerable bulk, both male and female, though it was fettered by oppression.
Since the histories of gay men and lesbians are radically different, the challenge is to describe interrelations in the gay and lesbian literary heritages without blurring them into each other.

Literature Review of Autoerotic Asphyxia and Fatalities   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Misdiagnoses were common for this time period and reflected the fact that not enough literature was available to completely understand and appreciate the complexities of these types of death.
While much of the literature of the 1970’s emphasized the typical death scene characteristics, Knight’s[103] 1979 report focused on the underlying motivations, which lead to these deaths.
Knight’s purpose was to “query whether there may not be in a proportion of fatal cases, clear evidence of an intention to self-destruction.”[104] Arguing this point, Knight described death scenes suggestive of accidental deaths along with scenes that were indicative of suicide.
