WW 2 Model Maker-Sam Alderlieste-A Guide to Tracked British 17 Pounders
This was the first attempt to get the 17 pounder gun on tracks, but due production delays the A30 was surpassed by the M4 Sherman 17 pdr variants, which ironically was designed as an ‘back-up’ would the A30 fail to meet it’s potential.
In march 1941 the 17 Pounder gun, follow up for the 6 Pounder gun, was first put into production.
Designed from the start as an high-velocity anti tank gun, during the war the 17 Pounder proved itself to be an outstanding and reliable weapon.

The battle of Kapyong, April 1951 [Australian War Memorial]
For protection of his headquarters Ferguson had a section of medium machine-guns, two 17 pounder anti-tank guns, the Assault Pioneer Platoon and some regimental police.
The desperate battle of the 29th Brigade on the Imjin River, together with the action at Kapyong, had depleted the stock of 25 pounder ammunition available forward of the airhead at Seoul.
More importantly Ferguson faced the prospect of having to control two battles, one involving the four companies and the other involving his own, immediate headquarters area, located directly beside the main enemy approach route and lightly defended.

Australian Morris CS11/30 2 Pounder Anti-Tank Portee by Mick Bell (Scratchbuilt 1/76)
It might be possible to used the radiator from a kit of a Morris truck [Airfix Quad, Bofors Tractor, or Matchbox 17 Pounder Tractor], but I didn’t have one to spare so had to scratch build the radiator from plasticard.
These references seemed to cover the truck adequately, next I needed to find out whether there was a model of the 2 Pounder available [I didn’t relish scratch building it] and what might be used as the basis of the truck.
The Aussies removed the sides from the Morris’ cargo body and fitted stout timber baulks across the flatbed to mount the 2 Pounder, still on its field carriage.

SHERMAN M4 AND M4A3 17 POUNDER IN US SERVICE NEW INFORMATION
What if the only available 75mm M4A1's (we know that 76mm T23 turret tanks were excluded as the turret layout precluded the installation of the 17 Pounder gun, within the time-scales and industrial capability available in 1944-45) only had electric traverse and or M34 mantlets.
This suggests that the water/glycol bins could be adapted to take the 17 Pounder ammunition, despite its larger size, compared to the 75mm rounds.
This letter stated very clearly that 17 Pounder conversions must be on a petrol engined Sherman.

British Tanks of World War II
The tank shown has a 6 pounder gun, but eventually a 75 mm gun, then a 17 pounder was used and reliability problems were solved.
The British used the 17 pounder in their Firefly version.
A Christie suspension provided a good ride and could travel at up to 40 mph, but early models were underarmed with the 2 pounder gun which was eventually replaced by the 6 pounder.

The Tiger had been damaged in action before it was subjected to the firing trials and these cracks, on the left, were created by 25 pounder guns firing high explosive.
In the summer of 1943 British forces in Tunisia conducted a series of firing trials against a turretless Tiger hull.

 September 2000 Catfish Reports
Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait and Tackle in Clearlake Oaks (707-998-1006) reports a few large channel cats being taken with live crawdads near Rattlesnake Island and a few including a 17 pounder caught at the mouth of the Clearlake Oaks Keys with anchovies.
The majority of fish have been running from around 8 to 12 pounds with an occasional 16 or 17 pounder.
This is going to be a fairly short catfish report as I couldn't get any information from the Clearlake area.

With the formation of the Citizen's Military Forces in 1948, 6th Anti-Tank Regiment, R.A.A was raised in 6 M.D, equipped with Q.F 17 pounder anti-tank guns.
In 1974, the regiment bid farewell to its 25 pounder guns and was re-equipped with the 105 mm M2A2 howitzer.
The unit was originally raised as a field artillery unit, equipped with two B.L 12 pounder Howitzer's and two 32 pounder guns on field carriages, but from 1887 it began providing detachments for the guns in the Alexandra and Kangaroo Bluff batteries.

Battlefront.com Discussion Forums: 17 Pounder APDS vs. Panther Glacis
If 17 pounder APDS penetrated Panther glacis on half the hits at 700 yards, this may approximate the ballistic limit and the armor quality vs. APDS would be (245/268), or 0.91 when penetration = effective armor resistance.
During August of 1944, the U.S. conducted firing tests on 3 captured Panthers using a variety of guns and ammo, including 17 pounder APDS.
This analysis suggests that 17 pounder APDS can be modelled with U.S. firing test HVAP slope effects, which exceed CM figures.

Dragon - Sherman Firefly: WW II Amercian Tank with a British Punch
At step 17, the detail shows the assembly of the antenna guard and requires some delicate bending and gluing to piece B-15, the antenna base.
In instruction step 10, the rear taillight guards are to be assembled using the plastic pieces (H-23 and H-24); however, I elected to use the optional photo etch parts.

Heavy Tanks of the British Army in World War II
The tank weighed 39 tons, had a top speed of 17 miles (27 kilometres) per hour, and had a range of 90 miles.
It was armed with either a 6-pounder or a 75-millimetre gun.
It was served by a crew of five and mounted two 7.92-millimetre machine guns in addition to its main gun.

 Liberation of the Low Countries
Fireflies were Shermans in which the very high velocity 17 pounder gun was substituted for the standard Sherman's relatively ineffective 75 mm gun.
This kind of tank was 'up-gunned' with a more poweful cannon to make it more of a match for the German 'Panther' and 'Tiger' tanks.
Installation also required rearward extension of the turret in the form of a 'box' compartment.
