Art historians are not often known for their close observation of the mechanics of picture cleaning; it is unusual and therefore telling that there are at least two overt references to problems caused by cleaning in the current art historical literature on Allston.

Ludwig's interest in religious art dates to his 1818 visit to Rome where he was introduced to a group of German artists known as the Nazarenes.
It was Peter Cornelius who introduced Nazarene ideals and the Nazarene style to the Munich art establishment.
The Nazarene painter was aided by a group of devoted students, who perfected the art of mural painting and shared his Christian revival convictions.

Dillon Ford, reinterpretive fusion of "View from the Painter's Studio" (1805-06, Vienna, Art History Museum) and "View of Vienna from the Belvedere" (1759-60, Vienna, Art History Museum) by Caspar Friedrich and Bernardo Bellotto respectively.
The sole purpose of this sonata is to evoke the musical world of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries as vividly as possible, in much the same way that good historical novels, plays, or motion pictures attempt to revisit the past with both authenticity and imagination.
It is one of a growing number of works, including several previous keyboard sonatas and a piano concerto, that Dillon Ford composed with a view towards fostering a renaissance in music of the kind that renewed the art, architecture, and literature of Europe in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
