War of 1812 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The War of 1812 (in Britain, the American War of 1812 to 1815), was fought between the United States and the British Empire from 1812 to 1815, on land in North America and at sea.
British invasions of American territory resulted in the burning of Washington, D.C. and the capture of part of the District of Maine, but the British counteroffensive was turned back at Lake Champlain, Baltimore, and New Orleans.
However, his invasion was repulsed by the naval Battle of Lake Champlain in Plattsburgh Bay on September 11, 1814 which gave the Americans control of Lake Champlain.

During the Middle Ages the territory of Republica Moldova (including most of present-day Moldova but also including districts to the north and south, known as Northern Bukovina and Bugeac) formed the eastern part of the Romanian principality of Moldavia (which, like the present-day republic, was known in Romanian as "Moldova").
Following the Treaty of Bucharest in 1812, it was annexed by Russia together with Ottoman Bessarabia or Bugeac.
At the end of World War I, Bessarabia proclaimed independence from Russia in 1918, and united with the Kingdom of Romania the same year, as did Transylvania.
